FCCJ/FSCJ Fall 2010 Hopefuls

Published

I know it is kind of early to start this thread but I thought maybe there were some others out there who are planning on applying for fccj/fscj fall 2010 RN program. Hope you will post on this thread!

Thats what they said, but others that I have spoken with that have gone through the program, have all told me they got there letters in 6 weeks or less, not 8. One person I know who went through the program 2 years ago, got her letter in 2 weeks. So I guess thats why I'm so anxious.

When I applied for Summer '08, we got out letters on Feb. 21st, with a Feb. 1st deadline.

lol that is sooooo funny. anyone else that is not going through the agony of waiting would probably think we are crazy! :lol2:

i think they would too! lol i should be concentrating on my classes right now, but it's so hard to write papers regarding american gov't and international politics, especially when all i can think about is this.

meltnpox - that score is sure to get you in. don't worry!

So, is anybody well-versed in the workings of financial aid? I have a bit of a dilemma and am not sure what to do:

Back when I first started going to school I was pursuing my English degree. Then I had my son and changed my mind and decided I wanted to be a nurse so I have lots and lots of extra credits from my English degree that I obviously don't need for nursing. My transcript says I have 75 credits and that I have been denied financial aid due to the 150% rule. I understand this rule to mean that if an AA degree takes 60 credits you are only allowed to receive aid for up to 150% of that 60, so 90 credits. Ok......but I only have 75?? I understand by the end of 2010-2011 school year I will have more, but why won't I be denied then? And why am I not allowed to change my major? I've only received aid for one term, that's it. And I'm not a perpetual student who just wants to live off student loans! I'm filing an appeal, but I just wondered if anyone else has had this happen.

Jenjt83 - I know of 3 people who applied to nursing program and who had this same problem. From what they told me the 150% rule applies to the total amount of financial aid you've ever received for any course. So if you started working on an English degree, they count the amount of financial starting there. An appeal is the way to go.

Good luck to you.

just a heads up to everyone in regards to financial aid. i had to appeal the loan limits and the 150% rule and i have a hold due to transcripts. i am graduating from unf on july 30th with my ba in management so of course i have more than 150% of required credits and my transcripts won't be sent until after the class i am currently taking ends (july 29th).

the link below will take you to the financial aid forms you need. what i had to do is fill out the appeal of loan limits (loan appeal form - 5th one down) and the appeal for the 150% rule.

i also spoke with carolyn johnson at fscj and she is very helpful. call 633-8100 extension 8920. she will walk you through the process and make sure you have everything you need. since i have a hold due to transcripts she has already told me to be prepared to pay for the first semester because i probably wouldn't be able to get my financial aid processed in time, but once it was processed it would pay me back for the money i had paid. i hope this helps. i know it's probably not what you wanted to hear but you have to make sure you can pay. i wouldn't want any of you to get accepted and then have to decline your seat because your financial aid wasn't ready.

MLTinJax - I filled out the 150% rule appeal form as well as a typed letter of explanation on why I'm appealing. The checklist in artemis also needed me to provide all of my w2 and tax returns from 2009. I plan on dropping all of that off today at FSCJ. I hope mine is a mistake, it would be really awful to not receive any aid to help pay for school after I made it this far.

Does the 150% rule apply to just financial aid or subsidized and unsubsidized loans? I took out one loan and changed my major, then changed it back to nursing so now I have a bunch of credits I dont need for nursing.I know Im getting close to 150% but I will need another loan to pay for nursing school

My understanding is that the 150% rule applies to all financial aid, federal loans included. The only exception is a private loan, but now that they are all handled by the govt, I don't know how that works.

What should I be prepared to do if they won't allow me to get anymore loans at all? Is appealing it the only way?

You should be able to know by now if they are going to give them to you or not. Did you fill out your FAFSA? After you fill it out, it will take a couple days to send the info to FSCJ and under your artemis account you will be able to see financial aid status.

And hopefully they'll actually be at Deerwood this time. Omg, you poor girl. I was really impressed by the way you seemed to take it in stride. You'll get it again, and it WILL be at Deerwood :redbeathe

Thanks so much NursRatchet! It was really a blow, so here's to hoping it doesn't happen again! :uhoh3:

I just went to Deerwood to turn in my financial aid stuff and the office is closed on Fridays :(

Well, looks like we are entering another looooong weekend with no news. Hopefully, this will be the last weekend we don't know, but, at the very least, it should definitely be the second-to-last weekend that we wait.

We're in the home stretch :nurse::nurse::nurse:
