FCCJ/FSCJ Fall 2010 Hopefuls

U.S.A. Florida

I know it is kind of early to start this thread but I thought maybe there were some others out there who are planning on applying for fccj/fscj fall 2010 RN program. Hope you will post on this thread!

I would definately apply to the LPN program. The deadline dates are the same as the RN, the first of Oct, June, and Feb. I did LPN first, have been one for 2 years and feel quite comfortable going (or trying to!) into the RN program. I would at least apply and if you don't get into the RN at least you can fall back on that, it's only a 12 month program too. Good luck :)

What do you do as an LPN? A friend mention a similar idea to me recently but I am not sure what they do? lol Thanks!

They mainly work in offices and do bloodwork and the stuff that gets the patient checked in to see the dr. Thanks for the advice though. I thought they had differnent deadlines for some reason =? haha

On another note, I got this info from another thread. If you buy from Amazon like I do, signing up for Amazon Student could be a plus with shipping and perks. One thing I found out was that if you have an existing Amazon account, you just need to change your email address to your school address. I hope this helps someone!

Trying the Deerwood financial aid office again today......

Typically it takes about 2 weeks. She is really good about calling back. You just have to give her a couple days. I know the last time I spoke with her (2 weeks ago) she said they where REALLY behind, so it may take more like 3 weeks. I wouldn't cut your trip short just to come back and do an apeal. It is definitally something you can take care of from there. All I did was email my forms to her and they where processed in about 2 weeks.

Thanks, I filled out all the paper work and left Carolyn a message, so hopefully she will call today and let me fax it all to her, if not guess I will get on the road tomorrow and head home, don't want to waste time especially if I do need to see fin aid in person. I just hope they approve my loan appeals, I'm already $5000.00 past I guess what is allowed. What screwed me up was originally going for medical assisting at a private college that was way over priced and switched to FSCJ, not knowing that FSCJ would only take 1/2 the credits and I had to retake some classes and some of the classes weren't what I needed for RN, so anyway, now I have excess loans that where a waste, but oh well nothing I can do about it now, except hope they approve my loan appeal.

Well, tomorrow will be 7 weeks since application deadline, hope we all hear something this week. I'm so nervous and couldn't fall asleep last night, just thinking about it.:confused:AHHH!?!?

In Jacksonville you really don't work in offices or labs much as an LPN, it's more nursing home and home health. They have medical assistants now that can work in dr's offices for like 12 to 14 an hour I think. That was my experience in job-hunting at least :)

I am planning on taking NAT in August after my AP1 final. I was reading all the posts and glad I did because I didn't realize that Spelling would not be counted. I'll still study for it just in case the school admin change their minds. My questions for the NAT. What does "academic aptitude" consists of? Is it vocabulary, grammar, math, etc??? How about Natural Science, what is it exactly? In math, do they allow you to use calculators? I need to score high in NAT because I will be applying for the night/weekend program.

For those who were accepted in the summer program - nights/weekends, what was your score? Did you guys make all A's? I am in AP1 completely online and it is tough. I was aiming for an A but I won't make the grade. I study until my head hurts and for some reason things still dont' make sense. I'm taking AP2 and Chem both onlines in the fall. I hope AP2 will not be as hard. What are your suggestions for AP2? Honest answers are truly appreciated.

I just came from the Deerwood student services office which was less than a positive experience. I waited for over an hour to see someone to drop off my w2 paperwork. The woman who "helped" me was rude and then told me I had to make an appt with an advisor to turn in my appeal form........

So I guess I will have to go back another day to turn that in since I could not wait another hour to see an advisor.

Haidee - You might be having trouble in A&P because it's online? I did not find that class too difficult but it seems online classes are always more challenging. For A&P 2 I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Johnson at the Deerwood campus, he was great.

As far as the NAT goes, I cannot remember exactly what was on the academic aptitude part but I do not think it was hard. I remember the Natural Science being a little bit tricky and you cannot use calculators but the math was basic calculations like fractions and percentages etc.

I went to the financial aid office at South Campus today. I asked the people next to me how long they had been waiting. An hour and a half.

I left. I'm going back tomorrow hopefully at 8 am when they first open and try to figure some things out.

When do classes start?

Make an appt. I waited over two hours for a five minute session with a lady that was very unhelpful. But a girl with an appt. was seen at her appointed time.
