Hello all! Just thought I'd start a thread for all of those folks that have submitted, or are getting ready to submit, their applications for FCCJ's Fall '08 term.
I will be submitting my application in a few weeks, when this Spring term ends. I have taken my NAT (twice), so I'm good to go there, but still need to get my CPR class done. I called several places & I'm waiting to hear back from them.
I look forward to chatting with & getting to know all of you, who will be doing the count-down with me... on getting our acceptance letters!!!
I know it helps to sound-board off each other & to lean on each other for support... especially with getting all the things done that we have to do!
Best of luck & success to all!!!
Your very lucky!!! I only have my tuition covered by a bright future scholarship. I have to pay for my books and everything else out of pocket. It really stinks because we don't have that much money, yet I'm not qulaified for financial aid. I really am trying to hold off on getting loans. So, we'll see how things play out. It would be nice if they included everything else as well. But I have to admit a little bit of help, is better than no help at all.
thanks. but i'm not really that lucky either . My husband is the only one working...yet, he makes too much for me to get a grant. i have to apply for student loans. i would love to get a job...but...i have a full time gig at home taking care of my four mini-me's (10yo, 6yo, 3yo, 2yo). i've been blessed to have a supportive family that helps with the kids when i have class...but i try not to over work them. the reason why i am so worried about costs is that i have to save up starting NOW! the money that i had saved up for school had to go on bills. we were having a hard time when my husbands job cut back on hours (factory/production jobs do that to you).
but i'm hanging in there...my grades are decent...and i am very confident that i will be accepted this semester and the next 18 months will fly by. then, my hubby wont have to work so hard..i hope
Oh and I forgot.... the minute you knw you are accepted call worksource!!! Especially those of you with children. They will pay for tuition if you make less than $25/hour and if you qualify your books and possibly child care depending on your situation. But they only get funding once a year usually in July. There is a line of people waiting for funding so get your paperwork in so when they get funding they can help you. They are paying tuition and books far alot of people in my class. Also they pay all your licensing and boards fees at the end which comes out to more than $800.
Whats the # to work source?? What will I need to have available?? I will def look into this. I would love to have some help with books and other added fees. Thank you soooo much!!

You are truly an amazing woman and with what you are going through deserve all the help you can get. I'm sorry about your husband's job situation. Life can be soooo stressful, but hang in there. You def have the right attitude and you will get through this and be one amazing nurse and provider for your family. We will all get through this next year or so together.
So true! We all have our own stories. We're in the same boat, husband makes too much for FAFSA yet it's a commission based job and economy-dependent. I'm a SAHM of two toddlers. My bright futures scholarship expired 2 years ago (we were living in Alaska at the time). So to Worksource we go! They'll be on speed dial as soon as I get the letter. We all just need to encourage and support each other. I love getting on this forum. Great info and good to hear similar stories.
Hey there I was reading the post and I myself am a navy wife my husband just returned from deployment and I was going to apply for the Fall RN program at FCCJ. Due to other family issues I decided to wait till spring to apply. I will also have completed Micro by then as well :) At any rate I ran across information about a program offered to spouses they will pay for your nursing school. I hope it helps. I did call and verify the information. You can call the navy college at NAS or Work source also has a lady by the name of Connie who handles it as well. but I copied some information here for you!!! I hope it helps you like it helped me!!
Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts
The Career Advancement Accounts program provides assistance to military spouses seeking to gain the skills and credentials necessary to begin or advance their career. Career Advancement Accounts (CAA) cover the costs of training and education, enabling participants to earn a degree or credential in in-demand, portable fields in almost any community across the country. CAA can be used to pay up to $3,000 in fees for one year, and may be renewed for one additional year, for a total two-year account amount of up to $6,000 per spouse.
Sweet I was planning on calling worksource but the military thing that they have is only if your spouse is E-5 or below. I told my hubby to go get demoted! lol Not my fault he is good at his job and made E-6 at 6 years, we are hoping he picks up chief next year but we doubt it as he is just shy of 10 years in the navy!
This sounds like it is just a 'scholarship' for any rank. I also planned on going to Navy Relief because you can get up to $3000 and they decide if it is a loan or grant. Either way I would rather have a loan at 0% and live without a small percentage of pay rather than taking out a normal loan.
I am loving stalking this board, it makes me feel like I am doing something.

I went to the Clay county office because I couldn't get anyone at the Duval office to answer the phone. You can do the initial screening at any office it doesn't matter where you live.
WorkSource Career Center
1845 Town Center Blvd., Suite 150
Orange Park, FL 32003
Phone: (904) 213-3888
Fax: (904) 278-5696
You need to talk to Maryann Nabywaniec ext 2062
Tell her you are interested in funding and you have been accepted to the RN program at FCCJ. She will send you a packet of info to fill out and make an appointment to meet with you. The packet tells you what to bring with you to the meeting.
They have other offices, the website is worksourcefl.com ...... you have to go to a career center though, they can't do the initial paperwork at a career development center. I've been told the St. Johns office is very helpful too. If you get into the program you just have to fill out a time sheet every month to show you are going to class and then agree to get a job 90 days after you finish school. And then 18 months out they will contact you to see if you are still employed. Doesn't matter if you move out of state after school. You will have a "case manager" to give your time sheets to and Maryann told me she would assign me one at a center close to where I lived. You can have a case manager at any of their locations.
The only thing I know of that can disqualify you for the funding is if you get too much Pell money. I don't get a Pell grant because I already have a B.A. You can get some Pell and still get their funding but there is a cutoff.
Yea I got the wonderful notice from Fccj stating the 150% rule and that my "EFC" is too much...why can't the state of FL understand that yes I have parents but no! They are not contributing to my education especially not 24k??? My next route is a private loan prolly through suntrust since I have my staffords through them so I feel pretty screwed by the FAFSA this year atleast next year ill be 24 and I won't be considered a dependent right now I'm a "dependent" that pays rent a car note insurance for a cell phone food water and electricity to study with...ofcourse this is all contingent on my acceptance... By the way where are those freakin letters at? Can I slip a 20 to someone at north campus to give it to me now??? Lol

Well that is what I orginally thought as well that it was only limited to E-5 and below. I had seen something about it I think last summer or so. My husband is a cheif and I thought for sure I was never going to see that scholarship, BUT I was just "looking" around on the internet and it is on the worksource website and it is on the mil spouse website as well. They decided to take the ranking completly off of it. The only other thing is to make sure your husband as a year left on his PRD from the date you get your letter and go in there. I was told it is a trail thing but they would do this thoughtout this year ( I am for sure doing it in the spring) and there are only a couple of states they are trying it at, and it is only for medical fields that take two years or less to complete. You get 3000 for your first year and 3000 for the second year, and the good thing the great thing about this is you will NEVER have to worry about paying anyone back!
I hope it helps!!

I got denied because of my parents too. I know exactly how you feel. I guess my Savings will be going towards school. I'm gonna try calling worksource though and work something out with them. It would be nice if I could atleast get help with books and etc.
