Having a hard time right now, not getting into specifics because it'd be very easy for those I know on here to figure it out but....

Cheer me up, tell me what is the absolute best best thing for you about working as a school nurse. I need it.

Thanks!

I am not a school nurse but I am a nurse who can cheer you up.

In my book you all are worth your weight in Gold and I am grateful to you all.

Neats, you are the best! Thanks for that.

My worst day here is still better than my best day at the bedside

Yup. Way better. I am blessed to have amazing staff and really great students, even my frequent flyers. I get to eat lunch, use the bathroom when I need to. Whatever emergency happens here will not be worse than what I dealt with in 20 years in the ICU. Keep swimming, Summer is coming!

Doing adult and student nursing concurrently, I can tell you, I love children. Wish I could do this profitably.

Yes, the schedule is awesome! That's why I changed jobs. But also, I can't put a price tag on being in my own kids' school getting to know their teachers and friends better! I love the autonomy of running my own health office the way I want to and if something isn't working well, I can change it! I love the opportunity to be the first and most trusted health professional that most of these kids get to know. Empowering them with knowledge to make good health choices for life is really the essence of this job! What an awesome opportunity to shape the health of the future generation!

Monday thru Friday, no weekends, nights, or holidays. A week off at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas, a week for spring break, Good Friday, and 2 1/2 months in the summer.

Yep.

Add to that that my daughter is in the same district, has the same schedule, and I am walking-distance from my house, so I lose no time commuting. Honestly, even my worst days here are way better than when I worked at the hospital (and I've worked at several of them, with some really great people).

Everything the others have said about the schedule and time off - its awesome! To have the same schedule as my kids is priceless. 2 of my 3 kids ride to school with me, hang out in the office with me for 15 min or so before school starts and then ride home with me. The older 2 come in during the lunch hour and raid my food drawer (I have snacks I bring in just for them). They often bring their friends :). It's perfect and the good far outweigh the bad.

This is me too. My 3 kids all ride to work with me. Little is in 1/2 day Pre-K, and the oldest often rides the bus home, but middle always comes in & hangs out. I also have the food drawer. :) I get to see my kiddos throughout the day and all their friends. Easy to keep tabs on them!

The schedule, for sure. Unlike any other job or profession, there is a start and end to each year with a boat load of time to reset in between. Everyone else drones on endlessly with the requisite 2 week vacation per year if your lucky, with no end in site. I know this from experience lol.

Yes, obviously the schedule but love my little office, love the kids, love the variety of things I do throughout the year, love working independently. Very little snarking this way.

One of my students told me yesterday, "I know I can be a pain in the butt, but thank you for taking good care of me." And a parent brought me girl scout cookies (shortbread-yummm) last week for "putting up" with her two kids. LOL It's the little things that brighten my day....

Not having somebody breathing down my back or being asked to take an extra shift. Hang in there!
