Hi there...I was thinking, as I was studying for NCLEX, how many mneumonics and other memory tricks we use. And I thought it would be good to have a thread where people could post what they use, and others could find them and use them. :)
I see there's a thread for acronyms, but I'm talking about mneumonics.
I'll start off :)
Immediate tx of MI, think MONA:
M Morphine sulfate
O Oxygen
N Nitroglycerin
A ASA
Treatment of CHF, think UNLOAD FAST:
U sit Upright
N Nitro
L Lasix
O Oxygen
A Aminophylline
D Digoxin
F Fluids- decrease
A Afterload - decrease
S Sodium - decrease
T Tests: dig level, ABG, K+
Assistive devices -- Canes:
C Cane
O Opposite
A Affected
L Leg
Keep adding! :)
oh oh oh to touch and feel very good velvet...ah!

[color=#00bfff]trochlear
[color=#00bfff]trigeminal

[color=#00bfff]facial
[color=#00bfff]vestibulocochlear
[color=#00bfff]glossopharyngeal
[color=#00bfff]vagus

[color=#00bfff]this is how i learned it in a&p....i never forgot it!
Where to place telemetry leads in our 5-lead system:
(White: right upper chest
Green: right lower ribcage
Black: left upper chest
Red: left lower ribcage
Brown (ground): middle of sternum)
"Clouds over grass
Smoke over fire
Dirt (ground) in the middle"
(and if you see a straight line, after you ascertain the pt is still breathing-check the green (lower right) lead first- it's almost certainly off!) :redbeathe
Not really sure how you're looking at it? The two pneumonics (APE To Man and All People Enjoy Time Magazine) have the same order:A: Aortic
P: Pulmonic
E: Erb's Point
T: Tricuspid
M: Mitral
The apical pulse isn't part of that equation, so maybe that's your confusion?
well i guess technically the Mitral and Apical are located at the same spot at the 5th intercostal space at the midclavicular line. In APETM the T=tricuspid for the tricuspid valve and M for the mitral valve but since they are located in the same spot, I think mitral and apical would both be accepted even though mitral can be palpated as the PMI (point of maximxal impulse) and apical is ascultated. So I guess maybe that too could be confusing as well!!
Heart valves (APTM) Always Plan To Move is what the instructor taught; All Prostitutes Take Money is the one that helps me remember them.
When entering a patient's room to give care, make sure you have a WIPER:
Wash your hands
Introduce yourself
Provide Privacy
Explain what you're going to do
Raise the bed to working height
I used to have a hard time remembering where the radial vs ulnar aspect of the arm was.
Now, imagine making a "thumbs up". Think like the Fonz: "Riiiight on." Right on = radial. Does that make sense? The radial artery goes to your thumb, the radial side of your arm is the side that has the thumb. It's easier to show than explain...but I never have a problem identifying where my IV sites are now!

That's a good one! How I remember is when I'm turning up the radio(the ones with a knob), the radial artery is facing upwards and ulner is under................
