how far is your clinical?

Published

like, how many miles and how long it takes you to get there/traffic/tolls etc;.

Mine last semester was pretty far, about 85 miles there and back, a good 45-50 minute ride each way. This had me setting my alarm for 4am, leave the house by 5:30 to get there by 6:30. No traffic as it was pretty early, and no traffic going home either. No tolls.

The good thing was it was at a really nice hospital and with an excellent instructor-Id choose this clinical again if we had a choice, but we dont. One choice is literally 10 minutes from my house.

It would really suck if the commute was far, and the hospital sucked.

Luckily my car is good on gas but even with I was still paying like $40 a week.

clinical and lecture are both in the same hospital for me this semester. its about 37 miles one way and takes me about 45 mins to get there. i leave for clinical at about 530 to get there by 630 (usually a few mins early if im not running late!). I was lucky last semester because at least my clinicals were at a slightly closer campus and my drive was only 30 mins.

its not so bad, im used to it, and its all highway no tolls.

Less than 1 mile. Took me like 3-5 mins all together to drive there. No, I am not lucky. I just moved to that area for school and clinicals. By the way, my school was 3 mile away.

I was lucky this semester and clinical was only about 3 miles away. Next semester it'll be more like 20 miles away.

Depends. They have clinical sites all over here in the valley. The school itself is about 25 minute drive from me. One clinical site is right across the street. Another one is about 4-5 miles from there. I always leave an hour before I'm supposed to be at school, as we get a 3% deduction for being late!

Nothing in my town is farther than 10 minutes away. Takes me maybe 5-7 minutes to get to my hospital.

I live in a suburb of a fairly large city (in the top 20 population in the US). My school is basically downtown, so about 10 miles (10-20 minutes depending on traffic) from my home. There are about 10 hospital locations within 15 miles of downtown and our school goes to all of them. So, some are close (5 miles) and some are closer to 25 miles. We don't get pick of sites, but so far I've been at hospitals within 10-15 miles of me.

Last semester, 45 miles ONE way. It was terrible.

This semester, 24 miles one way. Much better!!

Specializes in Medical-Surgical, Hemodialysis.

My farthest clinical was about 50 miles, one way. The worst part was that the drive consisted mostly of 2 lanes (highway and not interstate) but the clinical site was excellent and "most" of the staff was eager to take nursing students under their wing.

Yikes! A lot of you have really had some commutes!

I'm SO thankful my campus is less than a mile from my apartment, and the hospital where my program does ALL of its clinicals is only 2 miles from campus.

Which is perfect, since I take the bus or walk everywhere I go. I have limited access to a vehicle, but can't rely on it, so if I had clinicals as far as some of you so it would have been extremely hard for me to complete my clinicals!

My hubby and I chose to live out in the boonies, so I literally pay for it. LOL. School itself is a 55 minute commute each way. Two of my clinical sites this semester are only 30-35 minutes away from me, another is an hour. I'll take it though...I like living where it's QUIET, and the drive helps me get my mind together for the day. :D

screw that. This hospital was in the boonies, driving home I almost hit a big ass tree branch in the road one time, then you have to pass the rednecks with their homes on wheels taking up half the road, and last time there was a bail of hay in the road. ***** thats some country ****
