The question pretty much asked what task a nurse would fight to perform on a hot male patient... i only saw this because I was in a waiting room but the answers were to give a sponge bath, take a temperature (rectal), give a needle, or take their blood pressure............... I know this is a game show and I don't know who is surveyed for these questions or answers but for someone not taken off guard too easily I was pretty confused by the stereotyping. Thought it was interesting to mention.
Sure. I saw the title of the thread and thought we were being asked the question.
FWIW, so did I.
The treatment of nurses is obviously quite disturbing. In a larger sense, there are actually Americans who believe that taking a rectal temp is sexy!?! Many times a rectal temp is taken on a "hot" male patient after he ODs, is in some time of horrible trauma, etc. Get out the fire hose to cool things down!
Also, did someone actually say enema? That person does realize the intended end result of the enema, right???
Aren't there more important things for nurses to get upset about?
Oh there are a lot of other things to get upset about for sure. In this instance though, being portrayed as someone fighting over " hot male patients" just got under my skin for some reason! I have seen the awful nurse costumes, some episodes of shows where nurses are portrayed quite incorrectly, been told "aww, you should've gone to medical school!" But there in front of me was an audience chanting "taking temperatures up butt!" I don't know how they have figured out our secrets...really grinds my gears!

I am sorry if I came off as if asking this question (but really it was what would you *fight* over) NO! No, I really am sorry, that was definitely not my intention. I was more sitting with tweety birds around my head feeling like, excuse me!! There are so many ethical issues in nursing and how we are seen professionally by some is problematic. I missed how the first team responded, so I'm not sure if enema was a given answer. Really wouldn't surprise me. I completely agree the treatment of nurses is disturbing, and yes!! Get the fire hose!!

Well, from working in surgery, I know there was one patient who believed sticking an old fashion radio vacuum tube up theirs was... oh how should I put this.... "pleasurable"?
All I know is, the first company that makes a vibrator with a retrieval string, will probably make a mint selling it in the sex shops.

Thing is, there are specific items for that. It's just that it's so taboo people use other objects and then have to endure surgical retrieval. If things just weren't so taboo, the issue would probably go away.

inxluding spray deodorant can, shampoo bottle, glass probe, decapitated Barbie head, and yes, a still running vibrator. Among other things. Those are just the most memorable.
Robin Quivers, from the Howard Stern show is a rn Bsn graduate of univ of md. She tells a story when she worked in the trauma unit at U of MD in the late 1970's when a male patient felt terrible about his condition and felt he would never feel like a man again. Think he was a para. She said she got on the bed and straddled him so that he could get an erection. That was as far as it got but she certainly went above and beyond for him. Yikes! lucky she got out of nursing
