Hi all!
Thought I would start a thread for the fall semester! Anyone who wants to share their stats or anything about the application process can post them here! My stats as of now...
Pre-nursing GPA: 3.54
Science GPA: 3.67
HESI: 87.7
Pretty worried that my stats aren't good enough. Scored low on the A&P section of the HESI (80%) but made an A in the class...hoping maybe that will help even it out? I get discourage when I read through the other threads and see people get rejected with 4.0 GPA's and 90s on the HESI. I do have 80 volunteering hours at a children's hospital but I doubt that would help me enough.
My primo made a great point to me. He reminded me that UTHSC is the only nursing program that I applied to. Most apply to several schools, but some of us know where we want to go so that's what we pursue. His point was look, you made good scores on your HESI, you have a solid GPA, and UTHSC is highly competitive. Don't be hard on yourself. You know that if you would have applied to several schools, ONE of them would accept you based on your scholastic achievements. It's just that you chose this road, this singular road, and this is the compromise that you have to make. I hope his words of wisdom helps ease the anxiety for some of us. Many of us are fine candidates. Don't bother trying to unravel the mystery; its a waste of our time. We possibly will never know how applicants are chosen. It just may require multiple attempts, unfortunately a fact that many of you fine applicants have already experienced. I wish us all the best and much success and damb it I AM TIRED OF WAITING! :)
Great insight! Thank you for sharing. I keep having to remind myself of this so that I don't jump on the impulse to waste money for things that I'm so unsure of. As far as the next plan of action, I want to reapply to UTHealth and submit first-time applications to TWU and UH. I also want to apply for an ADN program at a community college just incase, then go for RN-BSN or RN-MSN programs thereafter. Any insights on this path? Obviously, I'm still hoping and praying that UTHealth accepts me so that I don't even have to entertain these "Plan Bs!" Crossing my fingers for Friday!
I am hoping this is true but summer is less competitiveI am wondering since I was waitlisted for summer ... would I have better changes getting in the next semester with Fall being more competitive than going from spring to summer instead of summer to fall.........you know what I mean ? I have read in all forums that people who usually have been waitlisted get in the following semester.....
I totally get what you're saying - I was thinking about that, too. Well, if that seems to be the trend, then I hope the odds are in your favor, regardless of the semester! Stay hopeful!

I have that understanding as well.. That summer is less people applying. But I guess we can look at it that way if we don't get in this time around our odds next deadline a tiny bit higher 😌ðŸ˜
You know I was heading down the Coleman College ADN program path before they lost their accreditation. I was almost ready to apply too! Cost wise it made more sense for me, and I had resigned myself to having to go the RN Bridge route. It does take a little longer.
I am a believer in the fortitude of the student being able to overcome a bad teacher. Just give me the materials and the tools. My passion for learning can not be quenched. I will teach myself if you can not teach me, and really this is as it should be. I want ownership of my own education and am not willing to sit back and waste the money on a semester even if I find the teacher to be less than engaged with the class.
That being said I believe there are plenty of above average nurses being produced by community colleges just as well as universities. With that being said however, the curriculum posted by UTHealth is so enticing! When life intervened and derailed my plan, it made me take a second look and consider UTHealth even though financially it is an obstacle. I am glad I reconsidered, because I will leave with a bachelor's which of course is where the employment requirements are now trending. Plus Dr. Red frig-gon Duke! Plus its UT!
I think your plan of applying to TWU is good; UH I thought their program was either a master's program or only accepted those who transfer in with a previous degree. Basically NOT undergrad, but I could have misunderstood.
Hello everyone.
I just called admissions to ask if it I should submit my transcript since the one prerequisite class I had pending is completed. The lady on the phone said that as of now they are only making decisions based on what they received by the deadline date. Has anyone submitted their transcripts after completing courses this spring?
I do not plan on submitting my transcripts until the end of the second mini semester once all of my remaining prerequisites are completed. Admissions does not use any credits for acceptance purposes other than what was submitted on March 15th. I just completed Chemistry, Nutrition, and Intro to Phil (all A's, yes!) for Spring 2017. I am taking Statistics Summer 1 and American Govt and American History Pt II during Summer II. All six of these do not affect my admissions, but if I DO get accepted and have not completed these by Aug 28, THEN i got problems.
Summer semester ends at the like first or second week of August so I will submit all of my remaining transfer credits then. Seems to be a pretty common thing at UTH, from what Ive read.

I see ... I only had Intro to Philosophy pending and I received my final grade yesterday. But wow you will have a packed summer! Do you work too ?
Do y'all think they have already made their admissions decisions?
I got my degree plan about a week ago and they made a mistake on one of my courses. They said they would update it in a few days but I am just hoping they see that all of my courses are completed when making a decision. I dunno. I'm not sure it would make too much of a difference. But I just wonder when they sit down and make the actual decisions.
Brandon if you don't mind. What been your stats? After the first and second denial did you try to retake any classes ? Did UT advice on what to work on? Thanks
I've only been denied once at UTHealth, so far that is. I have been denied two times for UTMB and wait listed twice at UTA. I haven't bothered retaking classes since there seems to be little rhyme or reason as to how they select students. When people with lower GPA's and much lower Hesi scores are getting admitted I don't care to waste both time and money re-taking courses I took 20 years ago. I wish I knew it was this competitive and I may have gone a different route. My situation is different than most in the fact I voluntarily left a 6 figure career to pursue this. I really wanted to do this as my second career, but now I'm not so sure.
My stats are
Pre-Requisite GPA: 3.4
Science GPA: 3.75
Hesi: 94

Wow. Your stats are definitely not bad at all.. Like u said lower GPA and Hesi.. Yeah ... This is my first time but just reading all these forums just scares me and makes me rethink my career.
Haha yes. But will be quitting if I get accepted. It's kind of been like running with weights on. I can't wait to see what I'm really capable of once I'm unhindered. I am up for the challenge. It makes a difference returning to school after a long period of time out, which I am. But I am absolutely a better student now. On yours though it does make sense to go ahead and submit it, since your done. What a good feeling that is. Good luck to you, hope we see each other on campus.
