Fall 2017:UT Health Science Center Houston

Published

Hi all!

Thought I would start a thread for the fall semester! Anyone who wants to share their stats or anything about the application process can post them here! My stats as of now...

Pre-nursing GPA: 3.54

Science GPA: 3.67

HESI: 87.7

Pretty worried that my stats aren't good enough. Scored low on the A&P section of the HESI (80%) but made an A in the class...hoping maybe that will help even it out? I get discourage when I read through the other threads and see people get rejected with 4.0 GPA's and 90s on the HESI. :( I do have 80 volunteering hours at a children's hospital but I doubt that would help me enough.

I have a spreadsheet on my laptop at home, where I took each semester going back about 6 semesters and input the application submission date as compared to the "official" notification date. I then also compared the "actual" notification date as well. Lowest common denominator was usually about 70 days. At least we are past 60 days!

This is the best/craziest thing I've ever heard and I'm so impressed/inspired omg hahaha

Im glad to know Im not the only one going insane because of this uncertainty. I like to be optimistic about getting in but I am also a realistic. So has anyone thought of their next plan of action if denied admission? I for one am thinking of retaking chemistry over the summer and aim to get an A to replace the B the B that I have and retake the Hesi and aim to get a better score

I'm running out of "next plan of actions". I could retake several of my classes like Psych, Soc, etc...that I got a B in over 20 years ago. After dealing with these schools for the last couple years there's no guarantee and I hate to waste time and money for nothing. I've been denied 3 times and wait listed twice so for to various schools, so I don't even stress about it anymore.

Im considering retaking government classes that I got Bs on. And as for the fall semester I would probably get my EMT and CNA certifications. That way I could be a little more prepared for the Spring 2018 Admissions.

Wow ! Dont give up now just carry on. But denied three times ? It makes me wonder of my chances, this is my first time time applying to a nursing program program. Much luck this time around!!

I thought about getting my CNA certification but i read that it doesnt help much and its a little pricey ... at this moment im ready to hear a yes or a no lmao!! Got luck to you !

My primo made a great point to me. He reminded me that UTHSC is the only nursing program that I applied to. Most apply to several schools, but some of us know where we want to go so that's what we pursue. His point was look, you made good scores on your HESI, you have a solid GPA, and UTHSC is highly competitive. Don't be hard on yourself. You know that if you would have applied to several schools, ONE of them would accept you based on your scholastic achievements. It's just that you chose this road, this singular road, and this is the compromise that you have to make. I hope his words of wisdom helps ease the anxiety for some of us. Many of us are fine candidates. Don't bother trying to unravel the mystery; its a waste of our time. We possibly will never know how applicants are chosen. It just may require multiple attempts, unfortunately a fact that many of you fine applicants have already experienced. I wish us all the best and much success and damb it I AM TIRED OF WAITING! :)

Hi there! I got in for the summer program and wanted to say the do sometimes look at people with a HESI score under 80. My overall score was 82 and I scored a 76 in vocabulary and my GPA is a 3.3 and I also have a friend that had been accepted for Fall 2016 and she had scored a 76 in AP and was accepted

Do you have a previous degree? Experience in the medical field?

Brandon if you don't mind. What been your stats? After the first and second denial did you try to retake any classes ? Did UT advice on what to work on? Thanks

WOW! This great news and feedback .. There is chances for all of us! Thank you for this little light in the waiting process

No I have no previous degree and no medical experience besides shadowing a nurse

Also I was waitlisted for the spring and accepted for the summer so if you get waitlisted I would definitely reapply for the following semester!
