Fall 2017:UT Health Science Center Houston

Published

Hi all!

Thought I would start a thread for the fall semester! Anyone who wants to share their stats or anything about the application process can post them here! My stats as of now...

Pre-nursing GPA: 3.54

Science GPA: 3.67

HESI: 87.7

Pretty worried that my stats aren't good enough. Scored low on the A&P section of the HESI (80%) but made an A in the class...hoping maybe that will help even it out? I get discourage when I read through the other threads and see people get rejected with 4.0 GPA's and 90s on the HESI. :( I do have 80 volunteering hours at a children's hospital but I doubt that would help me enough.

Hey, so the first time applied was for Spring 2017 and I was notified on November 15, 2016 at 5:35 pm by email that I was denied.LOL. And for the summer I got waitlisted and on May 2 they emailed me saying they had filled all the spots. There was a huge mix-up with my application when I applied for the fall. I called a month after applying for the fall to check the status and they tell me that they don't have an application for fall. So I panicked and cried , I told them I have the receipt stating I applied and paid for that semester. It took them two weeks to get back with me and they still couldn't find my application. All they found was the recipet but no application. Thank god they used my summer application and transferred it to the fall.so hopefully I get in this time, I feel like I wasted so much time. It is what it is í ½í¸

Hi everyone! Still nothing from my end. Just nervously waiting! I hope we all hear something soon. If not, June 15th is not far away. Please let me know if you all hear anything!

Just wanted to let you all know ... I attended the information session today and they said admissions decisions would be made by June 1st. :) one more week I'm thinking.

Ummm hmmm. They said that they had about 1100 applicants for the semester and filled just over 100 spots. Super discouraging. Haha.

The other thing had to do with withdrawals. I don't know if this applies to any of ya'll but she said if you had more than 6 withdrawals within your college career (or something to that effect) then they wont accept your application. I have been in school for 10 years and have taken SO many classes. I've withdrawn out of 8 that whole time. But I guess I was grandfathered into that whole "you can only drop 6 classes in your academic career" law. So I emailed her to get clarity on that. Ummm, what else.

OH! You can only take the HESI twice. Doesn't matter if its for another institution you get two attempts and two attempts only. Also, HESI scores expire after two years. They also take ONLY the most recent HESI score. If you did better on your first try, doesn't matter. They are taking your most recent one.

There is SO many stressful aspects to this application process. LOL.

Never heard about the drop rule...that seems to be something they should list on their criteria so people don't waste time or money applying. Did they tell you since it's been 10 years you are ok? I hope so since I've definitely dropped more than 6, but they were all done nearly 20 years ago. Maybe I'm mistaken, but I swear at the Summer info session they discussed the HESI and said you could only take it twice with their school code. I remember her saying if you took it at HCC for instance, do not send those scores to them if you wanted to re-take it with them so you'd have two chances. I've been at this for well over a year and I am astonished at the mixed information that comes out of this school. You can call and talk to someone and then at the info session they may say something totally different.

Hello! I have a question, does anyone know if we need to submit our final transcript if I was still taking some classes when I applied? It says incomplete on mine, so im not sure if its too late to submit my transcript if the decision is already to be made on june 1st???

Hey Brandon! Quick question. Were you just straight up denied to UT Health or were you waitlisted and then denied? Cause if you were waitlisted that wouldn't make sense about the W's. They wouldn't have planned to possibly let you in if you had too many W's. And about the HESI. They said this was a relatively new thing. Because one of the other admissions people asked the person and she said this rule about the HESI was more recent. What I don't understand is, if you're only allowed to take it twice and it expires after two years what happens if you wanna try to get in again after four years? You just can't? That seems kinda weird.

This is crazy. Is the first time I here about you only been able to take Hesi twice it doesn't state on website . Like HBU it says only twice and gave to pass all sections with 80 . So at least we knew only 2 chances . Oh god . And so many applicants that's a scary number

Hey jdskaggs88! Thanks for the great info! I'm super nervous about the HESI, because I've taken it three times, two for another school and once under UTHealth's. Makes me so nervous because I did better on UTHealth's HESI than I did for the other two. I hope we can clear up the ambiguity going around the application process!

Yes you can, I just submitted the rest of mine a couple days ago

I know! It just seems kinda weird. Because I took the HESI for UTA (which doesn't require the A&P section) so why would they count that as one of my attempts? It just seems kinda strange. Keep me posted pearl2020. If you at least get waitlisted that's a good thing cause that means that they didn't look at that this time. I just wouldn't take it again ya know what I mean?
