Fall 2017:UT Health Science Center Houston

Published

Hi all!

Thought I would start a thread for the fall semester! Anyone who wants to share their stats or anything about the application process can post them here! My stats as of now...

Pre-nursing GPA: 3.54

Science GPA: 3.67

HESI: 87.7

Pretty worried that my stats aren't good enough. Scored low on the A&P section of the HESI (80%) but made an A in the class...hoping maybe that will help even it out? I get discourage when I read through the other threads and see people get rejected with 4.0 GPA's and 90s on the HESI. :( I do have 80 volunteering hours at a children's hospital but I doubt that would help me enough.

Hey, so the first time applied was for Spring 2017 and I was notified on November 15, 2016 at 5:35 pm by email that I was denied.LOL. And for the summer I got waitlisted and on May 2 they emailed me saying they had filled all the spots. There was a huge mix-up with my application when I applied for the fall. I called a month after applying for the fall to check the status and they tell me that they don't have an application for fall. So I panicked and cried , I told them I have the receipt stating I applied and paid for that semester. It took them two weeks to get back with me and they still couldn't find my application. All they found was the recipet but no application. Thank god they used my summer application and transferred it to the fall.so hopefully I get in this time, I feel like I wasted so much time. It is what it is

Ok was just wondering ! Man that sucks about that misunderstanding with your fall application, but atleast you got it straightened out. Was just wondering the pattern... so far I haven't seen anyone denied, waitlisted then denied so maybe there's hope.

The other thing had to do with withdrawals. I don't know if this applies to any of ya'll but she said if you had more than 6 withdrawals within your college career (or something to that effect) then they wont accept your application. I have been in school for 10 years and have taken SO many classes. I've withdrawn out of 8 that whole time. But I guess I was grandfathered into that whole "you can only drop 6 classes in your academic career" law. So I emailed her to get clarity on that.

Thanks for sharing. W exceeding 6 definitely applies to me. When I was young and in school, I didn't care as much and I withdrew many times. Strange that over the whole stretch of forums that I've read and the information session that I've been to, this NEVER got brought up. And I wonder why wouldn't that have been included on my transcript evaluation?

I'm in the same boat. I didn't take school as seriously 20 years ago, but you'd hope that wouldn't effect your chances now.

If I don't get in, I was considering going up there to maybe try to bend the ear of a counselor? See if they can offer any insight into what went wrong, etc. Anybody else have the same idea, or maybe tried it and ran into issues? As a non-student, isn't there like zero obligation that Advising services would have to you?

I honestly don't think we will benefit out of that. I've spoken to many counselors and it seems like that are doing the application as if it was a lottery game. I've see students with really high gpa and don't get accepted but the ones with lower gpa are getting accepted. I could be wrong but to me it looks like they are drawing names out of a hat or something. What makes me mad is that I have applied three times and not once have I received an evaluation. Ugh the struggle is killing me

You know what? This would totally make sense. I've always heard that's not how UT chooses candidates. But if you have a GPA at around 3.0 and a HESI score that meets their expectations, they could easily just throw all of our applications in a pile and just choose 120. I'm gonna tell myself that's the case and it's all just a matter of luck cause I'm tired of stressing about what I have to do to get into this school, what they are looking for and if I meet the expectations. I know that I do.

And to Brandon and rnstudentcarmona. You would think that when denying you they would at least tell us this was true. AND that they would have this on their website. Why would I waste my time applying if they stated this on their website? How else would I have known this had I not gonna to the information session? And is this even true? Lol.

Yeah! And that too! Wouldn't they see this when doing the degree evaluations and just let you know you can't even apply because of this? Ugh. So frustrating.

Hey Y'all,

I've been a long time lurker of this thread that has silently observed our suffering. Today I logged onto the UT Health portal and my once yellow triangle is now a green circle. What does this mean? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi RachelEscamilla, did you have any outstanding classes and now that you are completed with all your classes it turned green? Maybe it means you got accepted? Doesn't sound like a bad thing to me!!

Same thing happened to me! I think it just means that they received our final transcript and all our classes are met now. :) I like seeing the green more than the yellow though lol

You guys are killing me lmao I saw the word acceptances and snapped....hahahha

I am definitely not going to complain about something turning green!! Yes, I just submitted my final transcript once my chemistry grade was official. If we are accepted it will be a green check correct? The suspense is killing me. I need to know if I need to start studying for my TEAS or not.
