Fall 2017:UT Health Science Center Houston

Published

Hi all!

Thought I would start a thread for the fall semester! Anyone who wants to share their stats or anything about the application process can post them here! My stats as of now...

Pre-nursing GPA: 3.54

Science GPA: 3.67

HESI: 87.7

Pretty worried that my stats aren't good enough. Scored low on the A&P section of the HESI (80%) but made an A in the class...hoping maybe that will help even it out? I get discourage when I read through the other threads and see people get rejected with 4.0 GPA's and 90s on the HESI. :( I do have 80 volunteering hours at a children's hospital but I doubt that would help me enough.

Hey Brandon! Quick question. Were you just straight up denied to UT Health or were you waitlisted and then denied? Cause if you were waitlisted that wouldn't make sense about the W's. They wouldn't have planned to possibly let you in if you had too many W's. And about the HESI. They said this was a relatively new thing. Because one of the other admissions people asked the person and she said this rule about the HESI was more recent. What I don't understand is, if you're only allowed to take it twice and it expires after two years what happens if you wanna try to get in again after four years? You just can't? That seems kinda weird.

I was denied...not wait listed. That HESI rule must be very recent, because the info session I attended was for the Summer cohort just a couple months ago. I've often wondered about the 2 year HESI expiration and not being able to retake. I've been trying to get into nursing school for over a year now, so if I don't get in this year according to them I have no shot whatsoever.

Yes you can, I just submitted the rest of mine a couple days ago

What do you mean by this? What did you submit the rest of? Just to clarify. lol

Let me get back to you about the W thing. I email someone who is normally pretty good about emailing me back. I am wondering if that may be the reason why you got denied. But also remember there are 1100 people applying this semester! Which is crazy.

Don't give up man! I've been working on this for over a year and a half and it's SO frustrating. But we wanna be nurses so let's make it happen. Are you planning on retaking any classes whatsoever?

Very strange, indeed. I will definitely keep you posted! I really hope they look at the HESI I took under their code. Great to know that there is a confirmed date of June 1st when decisions should go out! Very nerve-racking!

I think sarah was replying back to me because I asked if it was too late to submit my final transcript if i was still taking some classes when I applied. Since the decision day is june 1st, i didnt know if its too late to send it now.

Thanks sarah!

Oh gotcha! Oops lol

Oh I was answering someone's question, lol. I guess I was supposed to click on quote and not reply. But this was that persons question

(Hello! I have a question, does anyone know if we need to submit our final transcript if I was still taking some classes when I applied? It says incomplete on mine, so im not sure if its too late to submit my transcript if the decision is already to be made on june 1st???)

You're very welcome and good luck

If it is one of the reasons it would've been nice for them to include that in my denial letter, since I'd be wasting money to keep re-applying. I'm still not sure about retaking any classes. I'm not convinced it will help and since I haven't taken them yet I wouldn't have completed them until it's too late for Srping.

Yeah I can agree with you there. If that's the reason why there really isn't anything either of us can do about it so why waste our time and energy reapplying. What about 5 week summer courses at HCC? I think the deadline is September 1st so maybe you could take a few before then? I think that's what I might do depending on what happens.

Good idea I may do that.

Hey Sarah ! Can you tell me what happened your first try ? I know we were both waitlisted for the summer program. Just trying to see if there is a pattern for waitlisters getting in the application period after they've been denied from the

waitlist.

Hey, so the first time applied was for Spring 2017 and I was notified on November 15, 2016 at 5:35 pm by email that I was denied.LOL. And for the summer I got waitlisted and on May 2 they emailed me saying they had filled all the spots. There was a huge mix-up with my application when I applied for the fall. I called a month after applying for the fall to check the status and they tell me that they don't have an application for fall. So I panicked and cried , I told them I have the receipt stating I applied and paid for that semester. It took them two weeks to get back with me and they still couldn't find my application. All they found was the recipet but no application. Thank god they used my summer application and transferred it to the fall.so hopefully I get in this time, I feel like I wasted so much time. It is what it is
