Fall 2017:UT Health Science Center Houston

Published

Hi all!

Thought I would start a thread for the fall semester! Anyone who wants to share their stats or anything about the application process can post them here! My stats as of now...

Pre-nursing GPA: 3.54

Science GPA: 3.67

HESI: 87.7

Pretty worried that my stats aren't good enough. Scored low on the A&P section of the HESI (80%) but made an A in the class...hoping maybe that will help even it out? I get discourage when I read through the other threads and see people get rejected with 4.0 GPA's and 90s on the HESI. :( I do have 80 volunteering hours at a children's hospital but I doubt that would help me enough.

AMAZING scores!!! I'm interested in what you used for both tests as well if you don't mind sharing

Thanks EM D! I am working on my article for you guys as we speak! Sorry for the delay! I've been swamped with micro and A&P!!!

Take your time! I couldn't imagine doing both classes at once :o

Hey everybody what do you guys think about UTMB vs. UTHSC Houston? I know the commute is a huge factor but I'm from N Texas and will have to move anyway so besides that which one do you guys think is better? Lets say some freak clerical error happens and I get into both what makes UTHSC better than UTMB or vice versa?

June is crazy late UTMB will start giving out acceptances in a couple of weeks bc the deadline was sooner and I'm still torn between the two schools.

Hi Woodwatch11,

Both schools offer great nursing programs. I went to UTMB's orientation and I loved it! The staff was friendly and personable and they seemed willing to help the students. I did not get the same feeling from UT Health. One thing that I liked about the UTMB is that they start clinicals right a few weeks into the program so you get that much more experience. Where as UT Health the clinicals begin in the last semester. UTMB has a richer history too ... it was the first nursing school west of the Mississippi river and has been around for more than 100 years. They have the highest NCLEX passing rate in Texas , even higher than UT Health (from what they said). One thing i dont like about UTMB is their application process doesnt seem as straight forward as UT Health.

Hi! I'm a student at UTHealth.. we do start clinicals our first semester! The majority of them are just the last semester. for example: first semester is care 1 clinical, second semester is psych clinicals and third is community clinicals. Last semester is care 2, OB, pedi and high acuity clinicals. Our second semester we also spend some time in a nursing home since we have a geriatric course. Our last semester is just clinicals! No tests so we just focus on clinicals and getting a job. We have labs throughout the program as well. I'm a last semester student, and I can tell you that I feel confident in passing the NCLEX whenever I graduate. You can look at all the schools NCLEX pass rates on the Texas BON website under education. The scores are almost the same for this past year, but you can see what the pass rates were for the past 5 years. Both are great schools!

Has anyone else received a transcript evaluation yet? I don't know if they're really sending them out like they used to. I'm still waiting to see if I need to take stat over the summer or if my econ stat course will qualify. I tried calling early last week and left a message, but I haven't heard anything back.

I got an evaluation in the mail about 4 weeks ago (the eval is dated 2/16/17 but the envelope says 3/6/17). I would call them again until you get a hold of someone and request they send it to you. I know summer registration is happening at schools right now and would hate for you to not know!

I went ahead and signed up for the class already, just in case I need to take it. It doesn't begin until June so I have some wiggle room there. I'll call them again in the morning and see if I can't find an email address somewhere. Thanks for the help! Has anyone else received a transcript eval?

Oh! And alexis0617, what was your HESI A&P score? I'm just trying to look for correlations wherever I can :)

This happened to me for summer 2017 applications so I signed up for a class that didn't transfer. I wrote numerous emails asking for my class to be evaluated again and never received one back. I'm out of state and paid hundreds for it !! Ugh well I'm nearly done with the class already so oh well lmao

Is there anyone else on the waitlist for the summer that are applying for fall just incase ? How is everyone feeling ? I hate this waiting game :-(

That stinks! I'm sure they're crazy busy but we still need those evals!
