Hi, I'm starting my ADN nursing program in a few weeks. My 1st semester (of five semester program) will be:
Fundamentals of nursing (6 credit hours)
Fundamentals of nursing clinical ( 1 day/week)
fundamentals of nursing lab (1 day/week; 2 days a week the first few weeks until we start clinicals)
Health Assessment (counts as 1 credit hour but is scheduled for 3)
Pharmacology ( also counts as 1 credit but is scheduled 3)
I'm excited to see how it will all work. I wrote down what I think my schedule will look like and I was able to find about 23 hours a week to study. I hope that will be enough! My schedule is officially only 9 hrs total but we were advised against working, especially full time, and have most or all of our "co-reqs" done. ( I have all of them out of the way). I don't work but I am a mom of 2 which keeps me pretty busy. I've also been "couponing" for a while now, and I would like to have 3-5 hours to spend on that but I didn't see where I could squeeze it in...we'll see.
How about everyone else? What will your first semester look like?
my program doesnt really break it up into the type of class but throughout the semester it includes: fundamentals, ethics, & pharmacology in the lectures & two clinical rotations 8 weeks each.
mondays: lecture from 9am -1pm (with an additional hour lecture online.)
tuesdays: lecture from 10am-12pm and then lab from 12pm to 2pm
wednesdays: clinicals from 7am-4pm
this will be my first semester so im super excited
Here's my schedule:
M: Professionalism In Nursing 1030-1130 (1 credit class)
T: Health Promotion across lifespan (9 credit class) 0830-1100/1300-1730
W: Pathophysiology (3 credits) 0830-1130/ Health promo across lifespan 1300-1730
TH: Health promo across lifespan 1300-1730
F: Health promo across lifespan 1300-1730
About 25 hours spent in class and clinicals I guess... then add the 1hr commute/run kid to school and another one to the sitter LOL I need a nanny
Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply. I realized that I didn't include the times/days on mine so here goes:

This is 24 hours a week in class/lab/clinicals and it counts as 12 credits. I guess in nursing school an hour only counts as half a credit now!
Does this seem like a lot of time in class to anyone else? It seems like most people only have about 20 hours a week...
Mine came to about 24 too. If someone (not in nursing) asks how many hours I'm taking I don't know what I'll say...but it won't be 9!
I start Aug. 24th.
I have NU101 Intro to Nursing and NU100 Success Tools for Nursing (which is optional, but basically helps with test-taking skills, critical thinking, and preparation for NCLEX).
Wed
-NU 100 11-12:30p
-NU 101 12:30-3:30p
Thursday
-Lab 12-3p
Friday
-Lab 12-3p
In September, we begin our clinical hours at the hospital, which are the same days as the labs from 6:45a-1:25p. This time, we would alternate (every other week) between clinicals and labs (but labs are from 8am to 11am instead of 12-3p).
The day before clinicals, we'd have to pick up our patient assignment.
Then, we're required to attend a SAL (Skills Assessment Lab) for 20 mins, every week.
Tentative Schedule according to the curriculum
Nurs 2003 Fundamentals of Nursing I (3)
Nurs 2005 Professional Communications Skills Individuals, Family and Groups (3)
Nurs 2007 Pharmacotherapeutics (3)
Nurs 2200 Health Assessment (4)
The program that I am in orientation is for two days starting on the 17th and ends the 18th...I will know my days and time when I get there...since I am taking a 2 year accelerated program my classes run from 5 to as late as 10
