I guess I will get us started...

1: what date you start/ school name

2: how long is your program

3: why are you becoming an lpn..

4: how much is your program

Heeeyyy fellow ppl!!!!! I want to wish everybody luck I just finished my first semester of school!! I enjoyed every bit of it & I'm sure you all will too

I started nursing school already.... on March 2012 and it finishes next april of 2013 at Lincoln Tech, it cost 27,000.00 .. I love taking care of people.. I am extremely stressed , its very tough the program but I am getting through it... I will be going for my RN next year God willing....

So are you here in FL? I think ive heard of then

Cool. It scared the life out of me. LOL. But it also made me more motivated at the same time. I really don't know where the fear came from because I have past medical experience but I also know this is going to be different. Do you have any tips, suggestions, etc? I hope I get to start for Aug 2012 because I am in a temp-perm position right now and I don't know how long everything will last for. However, I don't want to give up the opportunity either. I'm torn. :(

Good to be a bit scared. It is a hard program!! And you will lose students along the way. Mrs B is hard core old school nurse. Believe it when she tells you how many hours you will spend studying. My best tip to you is do NOT procrastinate. It will kill you. Stay on top of your homework and projects. And develop a good study habit from day one. Go home after class every day and reread your notes.

What field do you want to work in. There are not tons of jobs out there like they would like you to believe. Most students end up in nursing homes.

Do you plan to continue to get your RN?? There are way more jobs available for RN than for LPN.

I wish you good luck in your journey. Feel free to contact me any time if you have any questions.

1. August 15th - Jones County Junior College

2. August - July; Monday - Thursday 8:30-3:20 & Fridays 8:30-3:00 (clinical days start at 7:00 & end usually around 2ish I was told).

3. I was an RN student, with only 3 weeks left in my first semester & due to some unforseen circumstances I had to withdraw (in good standing). Now I'm ready to get some sort of Nursing Degree under my belt because honestly 2 years as a CNA has shown me that this is NOT where I wanna stay. I've wanted to become a nurse since I was 8 & my mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. This LPN program gives me the leverage I need to be on my way to an RN degree & all the while I can work while gaining experience.

4. My school gives out an expected Gross Cost of: $5700, give or take a few dollars for uniforms (extra sizes & stethescope brands). I've started off the semester with an out of pocket expense of, wait for it: $350 (that's books, [i was lucky enough to borrow a good deal], scrubs for regular class days [already had some because I'm a CNA], a planner/organizer, and uniforms. Only expenses I have left are my CPR recert in December & alterations to my uniforms.

Holmes CC, is that as in Holmes County in Mississippi?

Yes, I noticed. She actually called two people out during orientation. The good thing is I had an old teacher in high school most likely worse than Ms. B. She was truly old school and didn't play. However, because of her I became a more serious student (this was a M.A. program I did then). So I would honestly rather have a teacher like that. I prefer a teacher who is honest and tells you like it is instead of sugar coating it.

Procrastination has always been an issue for me. For whatever reason I work well under pressure but now that I'm older I realize I can't do that anymore. I truly appreciate the advice. I've been out of school for nearly two years now so I have to get back into a routine. I also have a son now so things are so much different compared to when I first started college.

Well the gist of it: I plan to continue all the way to my BSN while working. I will take time off of school to just work for a little while then continue to my MSN, DNP, and Doctorate in Education. My main goal is to work in Labor and Delivery/OB?GYN and eventually become a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner and Midwife. Also to do research and in my latter years (God-willing) teach Nursing on the college level. However, I've done tons of research and I honestly don't expect an OB/GYN job off bat. I also don't expect a hospital job. I've worked in the nursing home in the past, volunteered, etc so I know what to expect in a nursing home. (My mom was a CNA for over 30 years). So I know that's mainly where LPN's are being hired now and in Home Health. So as long as my foot is in the door somewhere, that is all that matters to me. Experience is just that-Experience. I won't be picky especially in this economy.

I definitely will keep it in mind to contact you if I have any questions. I've honestly done all the pre-reqs for RN already, I worked as a Companion in Home Health for 1 1/2 years, I've done CNA, CMA, and Phlebotomy. The only thing I really don't know too much about is pharmacology, but then again I did work for a Specialty Pharmacy close to a year and pick up on some stuff after a while. I hope it helps me in class. What is your email? Thanks again for the advice!

Wow!!! Sounds like you definitely have a plan and focus. That is great!!! You sound like you definitely have your head on straight.

I have been blessed to find a job in an OB/GYN office. They are definitely few and far between. But the further you continue your education, the more doors that will open up for you.

My email is [email protected]

Please feel free to email me any time. I have "been there, done that" with TECO so hopefully I can help you out.

Best of luck,

Val

1. Orientation Aug. 29 and school starts Sept. 11. Lebanon County Career and Technology Center

2.My program is 18 months- T/W/Th 2-9:30pm

3.I have wanted to be a nurse for about 15 years but never thought I would get in. Last spring, I applied, took the entrance test and was shocked to be accepted. :yeah: My husband and I have 5 children and LPN is more attainable for me at this point, but a bridge program is always a possibility.

4. My program's tuition is approx $11,000

Oh wow I am starting a program with Boces in NY however its 18 months long, they do not offer full time. I start in Sept. I plan to bridge over to the RN after. I wanted to be a nurse for many years and after my father was diagnosed in 2008 with cancer it was obvious nursing was what I wanted to do. The tuition is about 20k I think. Good luck to everyone!!

I start on August 20. It's an 11 month program. I've always wanted to be a nurse and now is the perfect time for me to go to school and get it done. I do plan on getting my RN after I've worked for a year or so. I figured that the LPN program and then to bridge was the best fit for me. The cost of my program is $9,500. I'm so excited about nursing school and scared, all at once! I went to my orientation today and it was a ton of info. I felt overwhelmed but I'm sure everyone else did as well. Good luck to everyone!

Good Morning (or Afternoon, depending on your time zone, I'm on the EC) everyone!

1. I start the Practical Nursing program at Everest Institute in Southfield, MI on September 4, 2012. Orientation is August 7.

2. The program length is 11 months. The graduation date given is August 16, 2013.

3. I am becoming an LPN in order to facilitate a career in nursing. I am currently on a waiting list for an RN program, but who has time to wait? Once I am licensed, I am eligible for advanced placement in the very program I am waitlisted for. I plan to get my ASN, BSN, and then seek a higher degree to become a GNP or CRNA. I'll cross that bridge when I get to it, but I do plan to be an advanced practice nurse.
