Hey everybody! I just wanted to start a thread where all of us who are beginning the stressful process of worrying over Lonestar admissions can give each other some support! I'm planning on applying to LSC-Montgomery - retaking Psych 2301 in a Second 8 Weeks class to get an*A,* and getting ready to take the HESI in November when Moco's testing opens. I'm freaking out over how much is on the line...must make an *A!* Must blow HESI out of the water!!!!!
Anyway, just wanted to say good luck to everyone as their finishing up their prereqs and preparing for the HESI and ask...
LoneStar hopefuls...WHERE YOU AT?!! :heartbeat
Heyyy everybody I haven't really been on in awhile but I am in the process of getting my application completed. I am taking my Hesi hopefully next Tuesday at a college near by and hopefully that will build my score because I have B's in my pre-reqs. Im really nervous because I called the school the other day and they misplaced my transcripts. But hopefully everything will work out and I will get to meet some of you!
i would actually congratulate you because you are on your way to a 4 year degree in Rn as oppose to us trying to get into a 2 year. I think most of us are aiming for at minimum a BS in RN. If you do make it in (hope u do), please share the 'know how' on getting in. I need to apply to them also (along with others in case i get denied from LSC myself).
As for HCC, I was going through their process. After u jump through all their hoops, info. Session, application, pre req's, HESI, they then allow u to take Pharmacology. They use pharm as their weed out. Basically, if you pass the course AND the pharm math test (test must be passed with a 90 and above) you get in.
I took Pharmacology and had to drop due to my work schedule conflicting. They then allowed me to retake in summer but I was not focused, I had 3 vacations planned. End result I did not study as I should of so I did not pass the math. It's my fault I basically tossed my chance in the trash. I was then told I had to sit out 1 year, so I did, I waited then received a letter saying "due to space availibility I am unable to enroll in Pharm" I had to reapply. During that year that I sat out they changed their math requirement as well! Before u needed 0308, now it's 0312 which I have not taken. I emailed the dept. They basically told me I need to start back at step 1 attending info. Session and starting all over!!!
One of my friends just left their ADN program she said it's way to unorganized and too much drama to deal with, so she's looking to transfer her nursing courses into another program.
hum. what a shame, so was it hard to get invited to the pharm class and how hard is it? Exactly what hoops did you have to go though? I need to apply. As for the new math requirement, i should be OK with that since I have already taken college Alg and taking Statistics now. can you walk me though on how to get into there program? or any other ones you know of/how.
Thanks
It's actually quite simple with HCC. All the info. is on their web site, just go to www.hccs.edu then coleman college, programs, ADN Nursing - there it will tell you all the steps to apply.
quick run-down:
-First you must attend an info. session
-Submit application
-Pre-req's Math 0312, Biol 2401, PSYC 2301, Engl 1301,
-Hesi - pass with reading 70, math 75, a&p 60, grammer 75
-Once that is all completed you are invited to take Pharmacology
Pharmacology is not hard if you keep up with the reading, and study and learn how to do the drug calculations - which is alot of solving for X, and conversions. There are formulas for each type of order. The classes are just lecture and reviewing/taking notes.
Math has always been my worse subject! I only have 3 classes left to complete my AS, plus the math...1314 & statistics which I am dreading! If I ever get through those classes then I'd like to apply to a 4 year. Problem-my sciences will be expired! so I'll need to go back and re-take....always something!
All this drama makes me start to re-think Nursing but then what do I do with all the science courses I've taken? I will have basically a two year degree that is good only to transfer on to U of H to complete a Bachelor's but in what? not sure what else I'd like to do.
I'm in pharmacology right now at montgomery. I wonder if I can apply to hcc now or if pharm has to be complete. Also does anyone know if the information session for lonestar has to be attended at the location you want to be in cause cy-fair seems to have scheduled all of theyr'es right conveniently at the exact time and date of all my pharmacology exams. Also does the information session have to be attended before the application deadline?
hi everyone, i know we are stressed about getting into a program this semester... I turned my apps into montgomery 2 weeks ago and when i did i talked to the staff and got some news you may like to know. The man told me that this year the scores are exceptionally high, like never before. Mainly 11.7- 12 points, keep in mind this was only a week after the app period opened and he said the prepared students with high scores always turn them in early. Just wanted to give you all a heads up on how this year, your score probably needs to be even high than originally expected. I have an 11.356... so i hope i get in, we'll just have to wait and see!!!
tsheen- I hear ya on the info sessions, I had to skip class to make it to one. I would think that you could go to any campus, since there is only one application and we can apply to more than one.
As far as the score sheet updating...I think mine took about five days. I kept getting different answers here, so I went by the office and was told up to a week. After that, there may be a problem to check for.
Good luck! :)

yeah.. my 11.278 I applied with last enrollment was probaly not even close to the cut off. I retook my class and will have a better score this time. I think i will put Cy-Fair as my primary and Tomball as my secondary campuses. Anyone apply to other places or know how they work, HCC, Texas Womens, U of H or where ever? It would be nice if someone can give a few heads up on how they did it and whatnot just in case i don't make it in this time either (I will have no more classes from a CC after this semester is over).
