Hey everybody! I just wanted to start a thread where all of us who are beginning the stressful process of worrying over Lonestar admissions can give each other some support! I'm planning on applying to LSC-Montgomery - retaking Psych 2301 in a Second 8 Weeks class to get an*A,* and getting ready to take the HESI in November when Moco's testing opens. I'm freaking out over how much is on the line...must make an *A!* Must blow HESI out of the water!!!!!
Anyway, just wanted to say good luck to everyone as their finishing up their prereqs and preparing for the HESI and ask...
LoneStar hopefuls...WHERE YOU AT?!! :heartbeat
Hi jsmith!
I don't know where everyone else is, I guess busy trying to get back in the swing of things. Me personally, now that I'm able to apply (finally!), I can't seem to stay away from this place!
You may already know this, but just in case (and for anyone lurking for info), if you have an A in ENGL 1301 and A&P I (or II), then your points for the first part are actually 3.7, not 3.
Some unsolicited advice about the HESI- The reading sections on the practice tests that I did were much easier than what was actually on the test. Some of the questions were pretty cut & dry, but some had two answers that were very similar. I just followed the advice that I had read on here and chose the one that was closest to what was in the passage. Another hint (one I wish I'd done), according to those who've had to take both, the NET is harder. They are saying that if you prepare for the NET, you'll be fine with the HESI.
Which school are you taking the HESI at? I found the ticket for Cyfair on the Cyfair Nursing webpage, under deadlines (found in the blue bar down the left side of the page).
Good luck!
You can probally find the ticket through the search on the lsc homepage. As for those that did not get A's in eng, a&p, and psyc, if you want in the program, you need to retake them and get an A. Do not just take the class and get anything other than the A. It will look really bad on the app if you took it 2x and did not make an A. I missed out last app because of a B in psyc and only had 11.276 and did not make it (not even close to making it i think). However, imo if you have less, do go ahead and apply anyways. It don't hurt to get familiar with the process and 'what if' you make it in? It don't cost you much or anything much. Hopefully i make it in this time. I would have to study like crazy if i don't make it in this time because i will have my AS at the end of this semester and have to go to a 4 year college. Most of those require you to take most of the HESI ( like 6 or 7 parts of it) to apply for the program.
Do anyone know anything about the tomball campus and its RN program? I can't seem to find any feedback or info as to now good it is compared to Cy-Fair. I'm considering adding Tomball as my 2nd school of choice as i reall don't have the patience to travel to any of the other campuses. It's just way to far out of the way for a guy with no car of my own.
After you take the HESI, it takes a week or so for it to update into your individual online profile thru the school. Just go to the online application for Lone Star schools and keep checking your score sheet. It should update within a few business days after you take HESI and you can see your scores and apply. I know its sucks to wait but you have til March 1, 2010 to apply so you'll have plenty of time. Good Luck!
Is anyone applying to Montgomery as their first choice and North Harris as second?
Hey there!I've been reading all the posts and feel so discouraged!! I want to apply for the fall but I don't think my points are high enough
as of now I have a 10.57 do you guys think I have any chance ? Or even chance by way of waitlist? When I started taking pre-reqs in 07' I did not realize how competetive it would be to get into a program. I have 3 B's for pre-req's, I get 4 points for other classes complete (I have them all but speech ) and on my HESI I scored 76 in math (not my favorite subject) and an 89 on the reading. I know I really need to re-take my 3 pre-reqs but I really don't want to but will if that's what it takes. Any advice is helpful! My first choice would be Cy-fair since I just moved out to Katy, second North Harris, third Tomball then Montgomery.
I would go ahead and apply, you never know since they're are far more spots to be filled during this application period. However, I would STRONGLY advise signing up asap to retake courses. I had 3 B's myself last year and retook English 1301 and Psych since they were easier and required less time and effort then retaking AP 1 or 2 again. Anybody saying you need A's in all 3 pre-reqs is incorrect, but not totally. You can have two A's and B and a strong HESI score in reading and make it too. Although, 3 A's in all pre-reqs will obviously give you best chance. I would advise you to look into the mini-mester courses or 8 week programs they are now doing at Lone Star. You can knock out Eng and Psych quickly with A's. Your best option would have been to retake those in December over christmas break. I applied to Kingwood last fall with below an 11.0 and was not accepted, but there were only 30 or 40 spots open. Apply, wait and see. And retake courses if needed. Good Luck!
I really think thats what I need to do, start re-taking. This semester I am taking two courses at HCC, my 2nd history 1302 and nutrition. I only need 4 more classes to complete my AA or (5, another math) for my AS. I've been thinking maybe I should complete my 2 year first just to have a "degree complete" then go back and re-do my Sciences (1. for A's and 2. they start expiring in 1 year) I dont know! I'm a bit unsure of which direction I want to go right now, like most of us are. I have a 7 month old that is very demanding on me so I must plan accordingly. I do not want to attempt any of the sciences until I can 100% focus. Thanks for all your advice! I actually did submit the on-line LoneStar app. with my 10.57, I am not counting on getting in but why not apply anyways!!
Over this weekend I read about the UT Arlington on-line BSN program which may interest me as well. From what I understand you take all the pre-req courses basically completing your AS, then take 3 of their nursing pre-req's which can be done completely on-line, then apply into their BSN program where once again classroom courses are on-line and they will have clinicals at two hospitals here in Houston. From what I gather this is a new program. I'm going to call and find out more details. Has anyone else heard about this program or have any feedback on it?
Thangbom- I've been wondering the same thing about Tomball, and actually, I was considering putting it as my first choice for GPA reasons down the road. I asked my mom-in-law, who works at Tomball hospital, and she said that she hasn't heard anything bad (she's on nights so doesn't work with them herself). She did hear that they are building a new nursing lab over there, which I thought was pretty cool.
RN2B- I understand what it's like to go to school while you have a little one. I do it with two, though they are a bit older now, almost 4 and almost 6, but they were 2 and 4 when I started. My oldest started school this year, and it's actually made things a bit tougher (just another place to be at a certain time), but once both are in, I can see how it'll make things much easier.
As far as UTA's program, this is the first I've heard of it. I know that TAMU-Corpus Christi an online BSN as well. I looked into it a bit, but after my first online class last semester, ruled that right out. Online courses don't suit me well at all. About the only problem I read about were that there may be issues with finding clinical sites, but I don't remember the reason why.
Mocoguy- Thanks for the heads up. Someone else told me that it may take two months (which really worried me), and since I'd been getting a wide range of responses, just decided to go by the nursing office. She said the same thing, a couple of business days, but....
My score is updated! I will be turning in my completed app to Cyfair tomorrow! Now I can relax and focus on the semester. Until April, that is, when it'll be time to check the mailbox everyday.
Wow I wish the best of luck to everyone since I know how stressed I have been to get into the nursing program the past several years. I have been pointed in so many different directions and told all the wrong information by advisors. I could have applied over a year ago. Oh well I am coming out of this semester with a degree in science and finally did my hesi today. I appreciate all the info on this site that everyone has shared. It has helped me more than any advisor. Does anyone know if they round the scores. I calculate that I have a 11.18 after the hesi. Does that mean I have a 11.2? Ohhh I'm so nervous. Also does anyone know if putting in the schools as 2nd, 3rd, and 4th choices automatically applies us to those schools?
i think 11.7 anything is a sure bet you made it in. As for the rounding up or down. They don't round. They take teh scores to there exact number. so if you got something like a 11.2423, that is what position you are in to be selected for the RN program (the position works backwards however. ie. if there was a 11.333333, your position will be after that person and so on)
Thangbom321-
I can't believe you did not get in with 11.2, did u apply to all the campuses? Just courious. I guess it just goes to show how competitive it is to get in. I re-took the HESI and did much better a 95 in reading and a 90 on the math, I receive 4 pts for pre-req's but my problem is having 3 B's so I'll be applying with a 10.82, no hopes of getting in
I'm considering going the LVN route for now although, it's not what I really want to do. I will need to re-take my a&p's soon or take the refresher course because they expire in 1 year. Sucks that they don't count Micro because I loved the class, had a great instructor and received an A!! Unfortunatly my micro will expire the semester after my a&p.

Hi everybody!! Sorry to be joining on here so late but I'm applying for Lonestar in the fall as well and I'm glad to find some people to talk about it with!!
I have everything completed except a PE class but i heard you don't have to have that completed before you apply. I took the HESI for another school but I'm going to retake it like someone else said on here to try to increase my score to be competitive because I got a B in Psych so I know my score for that is a 3 out of 4 so I need a really good HESI score to even think about being eligible to be competitive with all the rest of you fellow applicants :) Anyway glad to be able to chat on here about what's going on and how the process it going!!
Oh by the way I know last year when I thought about applying before I realized I had one more class to take, you could print the testing ticket online but this year I didn't see that, how are y'all doing that?? Are you going to the campus (like the business office?) and getting it or what??? Thanks!! :)
