Fall 2010 Lonestar ADN Hopefuls

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Hey everybody! I just wanted to start a thread where all of us who are beginning the stressful process of worrying over Lonestar admissions can give each other some support!:yeah: I'm planning on applying to LSC-Montgomery - retaking Psych 2301 in a Second 8 Weeks class to get an*A,* and getting ready to take the HESI in November when Moco's testing opens. I'm freaking out over how much is on the line...must make an *A!* Must blow HESI out of the water!!!!!

Anyway, just wanted to say good luck to everyone as their finishing up their prereqs and preparing for the HESI and ask...

LoneStar hopefuls...WHERE YOU AT?!! :heartbeat

i am also looking into applying to lonestar montg. for their nursing program. however, i am a little confused and the man that i spoke with on the phone was not helpful at all.

was i correct to read:

are these all the pre-req's? because of the website, it only had human a&p, english, & psychology.

human a&p i, english, psychology, human a&p ii, principles of sociology, lifespan growth & development, speech, and medical microbiology?

the only pre-req's are those first three but the other classes bascially award you extra points - is that right? i am so confused. i already have my bs with concentrations in sociology and govt. i have take human a&p, many english courses, a couple of psych classes, too many sociology classes to count as well as microbiology. my science classes are over five years old and i would probably have to take a refresher course. does anyone know if these are available online?

please help if you can! i know that i will get more answers when i attend the info session next month but i am trying to get everything lined up in order.

thanks!

AZ2b - The first three are the prereqs, and yes, the others earn you extra points, but the program is so competitive, you aren't likely to get in without the extra points. There's just no way to get in with less than 11 pts (unless you get lucky on the waiting list!), so you really need to have every class except one completed by the semester before you apply. I *think* there's either a refresher course or the other option (Intro to A&P??) that counts as the refresher that's mostly online - obviously the labs have to be done on campus, but I'm not sure if they have that option for micro.

When I spoke to the nursing advisor, she basically said if you make an A in one of the A&P classes and the other two prereqs, complete all of the courses for full points and do a bang up job on the HESI, you can rest easy knowing you'll probably get in somewhere!

Thanks Stephanie! I just really need to speak with an advisor and then register for the refresher course(s). I really don't want to retake all of my science courses, but I may not have much of a choice. But if that means getting into program, then so be it! I'll do what it takes!!! ;)

Hey I was going to apply in January and was trying to see if anybody knew when I should take my Hesi test?????

Hi on the lone star college cyfair college nursing department site it states that Biology 2404 is now an acceptable refresher course for both Biology 2401 & 2402.

Specializes in Geriatrics.

does anyone know if lonestar (any campus) will accept hesi scores from another institution? i took my hesi in october and did really well so i was hoping to use those scores and save myself the added stress of having to retest again.:grn:

my dh and i are moving possibly to the houston area and i will have to give up my seat at a nursing program that i will probably get accepted to for spring 2010. fortunately, i have completed all the prereqs and all but one gen ed class for the lonestar nursing program so i think i should be ok for their requirements.

any information that you can provide regarding acceptance of the hesi exam from another school would be great.

it's been a long haul (8 years) and i am eager to get started - as i am sure all of you are too!

good luck to everyone!

thanks.

whats the application deadline for the fall 2010 program at lonestar!!????????????

Can apply at the end of spring 2010?? thats when i would be done with all pre reqs!

I'm going to be applying to CyFair for fall 2010, and I can't wait to get it all in!!! After this semester is over, I'll have 8 points for my classes, so all that's left is the HESI. :yeah: I'm nervous about it, but I took the practice test in the Evolve Reach book and got a 90, which would give me an overall total of 11.6. Now I'm just praying that the real deal isn't much more difficult.

On another note, is anyone else trying to hunt down their shot records? The only ones that I have are the ones that my mom kept and there's no doctor signature. It looks like I'm going to have to re-do some or have titers drawn (if I can get my insurance to cover them).

To answer a couple of Q's-

Spacecitygroover- The application deadline is 3/1/10. You would need to have all but four hours complete by the end of this semester to get the full four points. It's a pain and kind of leaves you hanging for a semester; believe me, I understand. All I have left to take in the spring is micro, but I still have to take another class to be eligible for my loan. I'm going to go ahead and take college algebra, since I'll eventually need it to get my BSN and it should be a pretty easy class for me. If you'll have more than one class to take in the spring, you could apply for spring 2011 entrance. That application period opens in the summer.

Siennah- At the info session that I attended in October, we were told that yes, they are now accepting HESI scores from other schools. I believe that you'll need to give them your score in person though vs. it updating automatically as it would if you were to take it at a LSC campus. Oh and, welcome to Houston!

Good luck, everyone!!!

Forgot to add-

Mz. Eboni- I don't know about the other campuses, but CyFair opens the HESI only during application periods, so January 20 is the next time. I think I saw someone say that one of the others (MoCo?) is open this month. I think I'm going to check into it...I want to get it over with!!!

I'm really confused on this point system..so can you please explain it to me..and i have lots of the classes that count for extra points!

Here's the link to the scoring sheet that they use for the ADN program-

I really want to apply for Fall 2010, but I still have A&P2 and micro to take this spring. my pre-req GPA is 3.7 now. Still need to take the Hesi. So do you guys think I will have chance of getting in this fall 2010? And is the HESI hard? What is the chance of getting in? Any Lone Star college is fine. I dont want to waste another semester having no class to take. I had my bachelor 2 yrs ago, and kind of want to go for accelerated program at UTH, but I still need to take nutrition, and Texas history and intro to philo. I heard it's really hard there. I wish I could get in this program, but I dont have a strong background in medical field. so I realize it must be hard for me to compete with other people. Any suggestion? Thanks.
