  1. MSWARD1987~ I have an appointment on Thursday 6/23 with Jay at Chamberlain, I've already faxed them over my transcripts for review and this summer I am taking Chemistry at HCC. I just wanted to ask you what to expect? I'm curious to know if they will accept all or most of my completed classes, I will have my AS complete this summer. Can you tell me what they look for in an applicant? How difficult is it to get accepted into their BSN program? I know the cost is high! but I'm willing to pay the high cost just to get my nursing degree, this is something I've wanted for so long. Any advice would be helpful!! Thanks
  2. Hello~ I'm considering applying to the LVN program at Cy-fair. Does anyone know what the previous entrance scores have been? How many people get accepted? I know application deadline is in May and I still have not attended an info. session is this mandatory? If you have any feedback on the LVN program please share... Thanks
  3. I believe Pharm has to be complete first but I would call or e-mail and ask. I do know that they will take the pharm from Lonestar all you have to do is pass the HCC pharm math test with 90 and above. I rememer a few people coming in and sitting during the math review from cy-fair.
  4. It's actually quite simple with HCC. All the info. is on their web site, just go to www.hccs.edu then coleman college, programs, ADN Nursing - there it will tell you all the steps to apply. quick run-down: -First you must attend an info. session -Submit application -Pre-req's Math 0312, Biol 2401, PSYC 2301, Engl 1301, -Hesi - pass with reading 70, math 75, a&p 60, grammer 75 -Once that is all completed you are invited to take Pharmacology Pharmacology is not hard if you keep up with the reading, and study and learn how to do the drug calculations - which is alot of solving for X, and conversions. There are formulas for each type of order. The classes are just lecture and reviewing/taking notes. Math has always been my worse subject! I only have 3 classes left to complete my AS, plus the math...1314 & statistics which I am dreading! If I ever get through those classes then I'd like to apply to a 4 year. Problem-my sciences will be expired! so I'll need to go back and re-take....always something! All this drama makes me start to re-think Nursing but then what do I do with all the science courses I've taken? I will have basically a two year degree that is good only to transfer on to U of H to complete a Bachelor's but in what? not sure what else I'd like to do.
  5. As for HCC, I was going through their process. After u jump through all their hoops, info. Session, application, pre req's, HESI, they then allow u to take Pharmacology. They use pharm as their weed out. Basically, if you pass the course AND the pharm math test (test must be passed with a 90 and above) you get in. I took Pharmacology and had to drop due to my work schedule conflicting. They then allowed me to retake in summer but I was not focused, I had 3 vacations planned. End result I did not study as I should of so I did not pass the math. It's my fault I basically tossed my chance in the trash. I was then told I had to sit out 1 year, so I did, I waited then received a letter saying "due to space availibility I am unable to enroll in Pharm" I had to reapply. During that year that I sat out they changed their math requirement as well! Before u needed 0308, now it's 0312 which I have not taken. I emailed the dept. They basically told me I need to start back at step 1 attending info. Session and starting all over!!! One of my friends just left their ADN program she said it's way to unorganized and too much drama to deal with, so she's looking to transfer her nursing courses into another program.
  6. Thangbom321- I can't believe you did not get in with 11.2, did u apply to all the campuses? Just courious. I guess it just goes to show how competitive it is to get in. I re-took the HESI and did much better a 95 in reading and a 90 on the math, I receive 4 pts for pre-req's but my problem is having 3 B's so I'll be applying with a 10.82, no hopes of getting in I'm considering going the LVN route for now although, it's not what I really want to do. I will need to re-take my a&p's soon or take the refresher course because they expire in 1 year. Sucks that they don't count Micro because I loved the class, had a great instructor and received an A!! Unfortunatly my micro will expire the semester after my a&p.
  7. I really think thats what I need to do, start re-taking. This semester I am taking two courses at HCC, my 2nd history 1302 and nutrition. I only need 4 more classes to complete my AA or (5, another math) for my AS. I've been thinking maybe I should complete my 2 year first just to have a "degree complete" then go back and re-do my Sciences (1. for A's and 2. they start expiring in 1 year) I dont know! I'm a bit unsure of which direction I want to go right now, like most of us are. I have a 7 month old that is very demanding on me so I must plan accordingly. I do not want to attempt any of the sciences until I can 100% focus. Thanks for all your advice! I actually did submit the on-line LoneStar app. with my 10.57, I am not counting on getting in but why not apply anyways!! Over this weekend I read about the UT Arlington on-line BSN program which may interest me as well. From what I understand you take all the pre-req courses basically completing your AS, then take 3 of their nursing pre-req's which can be done completely on-line, then apply into their BSN program where once again classroom courses are on-line and they will have clinicals at two hospitals here in Houston. From what I gather this is a new program. I'm going to call and find out more details. Has anyone else heard about this program or have any feedback on it?
  8. Sand_dollar - Thanks for the web-site I will definitly check it out. I will not allow Algebra to keep me from reaching my goal!
  9. I feel your pain! I jumped through so many hoops trying to get into my cc nursing program avoiding math at all costs....and it basically cost me entrance into the program My cc has you take pre-req's (check) take HESI (check) then gain admittance into pharmacology as the last step....catch is, is that you must pass the course including a timed math dosage calculation test with 90% or above. If you fail then you do not get in the program. This is the deal breaker for most of the students. I was in Pharm during summer and at the time had 3 vacations all that fell the weekends prior to test so I did not study as much as I sould have and combine that with weak math skills....I did not pass. I thought I could re-take pharm the following semester but I was informed that I needed to wait out 1 year! Now, come to find out in that year they have change the requirements for math, now another math course is needed prior to applying which I have not taken. For me, Math has always been a needle in my side. I only have a few courses left to complete my AA (I should get an AS since I have so much science but I do not want to take the extra math) I have a 3.5gpa but college algebra will be my last course I take since it will probably take me a few tries to pass. I am truly going to try and focus on learning math to get over these hurdles....my sciences start expiring next year so I dont have much time.
  10. Hey there! I've been reading all the posts and feel so discouraged!! I want to apply for the fall but I don't think my points are high enough as of now I have a 10.57 do you guys think I have any chance ? Or even chance by way of waitlist? When I started taking pre-reqs in 07' I did not realize how competetive it would be to get into a program. I have 3 B's for pre-req's, I get 4 points for other classes complete (I have them all but speech ) and on my HESI I scored 76 in math (not my favorite subject) and an 89 on the reading. I know I really need to re-take my 3 pre-reqs but I really don't want to but will if that's what it takes. Any advice is helpful! My first choice would be Cy-fair since I just moved out to Katy, second North Harris, third Tomball then Montgomery.
  11. I applied to Kingwood knowing I would not get in. I applied just as a preparation for the next application period when I will have all pre-req's complete (except for speech) I wanted to feel comfortable with the application process. Anyways, what I am getting at is that I already received my denial letter....about a month ago, so maybe no news is good news for you!
  12. Hey Brooke, Congrat's to you for being done! I would be interested in your books (if no one else is) I am not yet in a nursing program but have applied to HCC and must take the HESI later this month. The books would give me a headstart in this long journey. Post me a private e-mail for contact info. Thanks
  13. Unfortunatly, I cannot answer your question since I am not at the point of registering for Pharmacology yet, but I was wondering if you could give me any study advice for the HESI. My fear is the math section since it's my weakest subject. I did attend the HCC Nursing orientation recently and they told the class that there were no more HESI test sessions left and that they may offer one in May and to sign - up for the waitlist I did not sign up that day although I am eligible but I figured I would wait, complete 2 more classes this summer and prepare for the HESI. Hopefully I will be fully prepared once I do submit an application. Good Luck with getting in Pharmacology! ~B
  14. I'm glad you all are with me! I am taking A&PII the first 5 week summer session and Psyc. Lifespan & Development on-line the 10 week session. I am debating on taking a 3rd class in the 2nd summer session but we'll see. I dont want to overload myself since my goal is for A's.... good luck to everyone it will be a long summer! ~B
