  1. Hi I was hoping someone might be able to give me some information. I'm searching for some info for my sister. unfortunately she was going through a rough time and quit her job as a RN last summer and became and escort for a few months. I think she was starting to burn out and she just kind of "lost it". Anyway long story short she ended up getting in trouble and got arrested back in December. Just recently did all of the court issues end and she took a deferred adjudication plea. I believe a prostitution charge is a class B misdeamenor. I've been trying to find out what disciplinary action she may be facing but it seems the TX board is very vague on the issue. Has anyone encountered something like this before? Or know what may happen to her? I'm really concerned because she's been really upset and down, with the unknown of everything. Since this happened in December, she's really cleaned up her act and is back working as an RN with a job that she absolutely loves. I can see the day to day fear in her because she doesnt know if she's going to lose her license or where to go from here. Does anyone know what happens with cases like this? Any input would be very helpful! Thank you!
  2. The womans hospital of texas is a GREAT place to work! I've been there for 8 months now and absolutely love it! I would highly recommend applying there! We deliver over 9,000 babies a year. If you want to learn L&D Woman's is a great place to learn it!
  3. Hey everyone! I have a few review books I bought and never used that I wanna try to give away. I believe I have them for Fundamentals Pedi OB Pharm med surg and I'll have an NCLEX book too... as long as I pass my boards on the 8th!! Anyway let me know if anyone wants them! I just graduated in August so everything should be current unless they chaged the books!
  4. I just graduated and was there for clinicals Jan-Aug and was happy for the most part. However, I spoke with a lot of the nurses I got to know and they recommended I not apply there. From what I hear it isnt very nurse friendly and several people were in the works of leaving. I went ahead and applied with their sister hospital in the medical center.. which is The Woman's Hospital of Texas and was hired as a level III NICU Nurse. They have GREAT internships and I've heard they are very nurse friendly. It is in the medical center but the pay is good, parking is free and I've heard nothing but great things about them. It's something to look
  5. Yes definitely study the book. If you want to be successful in any program and REALLY learn the material, ALWAYS read the book. Notes are great but never rely on them. If you want to be a great nurse, you have to put the time and hard work into it. Don't ever study just to "get by" because it will haunt you later on once you are in nursing school. I promise you, everything you learn in Pharm and the courses you have taken up to this point, you WILL use in the program. If you learn it now the right way, your life will be much easier in the program
  6. there are usually 500 or so that take pharm in the summer... i took is back in 2005 in the summer, and am currently in their ADN program (graduating in august)...anyway the summer is VERY fast paced.. many people are weeded out because they dont take the class seriously and dont believe them when they tell you 2 out of 3 students will fail. You study religiously, you'll be just fine and never never never rely on your notes. Especially with these instructors... some are VERY good about going off their notes but most arent..notes should be used only as a guideline because the moment you start relying just on your notes, you'll get yourself in trouble. Put in the work and I promise you'll do just fine. May as well work on your study habits now before you get into the program and life will be much easier for you :-)
  7. Hi Everyone! I'm graduating in August and am starting to look in to hospitals to begin applying for positions and internships. I'm very much interested in the medical center for many reasons. I was curious to see if any of you have any suggestions of good places for a new grad to start? So far I'm looking to into St. Lukes, Texas Children's, MD Anderson, Women's, Hermann and Hermann Childrens. I'm hoping to start out either in Labor and Delivery or NICU... otherwise any area of pediatrics. I've already had an offer from Ben Taub for a labor and delivery position but I don't know if that would be a good place for me to start. If any of you have some words of advice or suggestions, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks so much!!
  8. Thanks for your help ladies!!
  9. Hey ya'll! I'm working on a paper for my management class where we are basically the charge nurse and have to make room assignments out the the RNs, LVNs and UAPs.... anyway my question is.. can you have a man and a woman in the same room together?? I've been looking online but I can't find anything that would say either way! I asked our prof if it was a mistake and he indicated he purposely did it so basically I have to be able to justify why it isnt appropriate or could be appropriate. Anyone have any suggestions or ideas where I could find that info??
  10. Hey girl! I'm actually already in the program, so let me turn that one around on ya. If you have any questions or need anything at all while you're trying to get in, please feel free to ask!! :-)
  11. Ya gotta love the profs that do that! i know it just makes your blood boil! But it'll be ok! Just move on to the next test! There's really not much you can do about it now. It'll be ok!!
  12. Yep, yep!! Always fun seeing people from the same program! What semester are you in?
  13. I absolutely am! Truly, I am having so much fun so far! It has been overwhelming and is getting even more so with clinicals coming up and the dreaded care plans!!! We went through all the details of them yesterday and oh my gosh!!! SCARY! I'm thrilled about finally getting started in the hospital next week! I can't wait to get my first patient!! How is Pedi/OB going for you????
  14. Kris! It's going GREAT!!!! I am having so much fun!!!!! We start clinicals next Tuesday and I am so excited!!!! A little nervous but I feel like I'm ready now! We had the hospital orientation yesterday which was cool. We're at spring branch hospital this semester, so got to meet some of the nurses and check out the unit we'll be on! How's school going for you? CALL ME! I've called like a million times and you never answer!!
  15. 1) Yes, HCC takes both spring and fall applicants. However a much smaller number in the spring. If I were you, I'd get started in the application process now. Pharmacology is a pre-req to get into the program and there is typically a one or two semester wait to start Pharm, so my suggestion would be get up to the campus and apply asap so they can put you on the waiting list for Pharm. 2) HCC goes to a number of Hospitals in the medical center and throughout Houston. It varies each semester. 3) Unfortunately there is no really way going about parking as far as I know. I have a parking contract which runs me about $60/month and I know thats what a large majority of students do. I've heard some taking the bus in and I'm sure that would save a significant amount of money if you wanted to look into that route. Honestly, the cheapest way to go about parking is probably getting a contract because most places will run you no less than $6-$10/day, so the $60/month is WAY cheaper. 4) As far as advisors go, there really isn't anyone I, personally would recommend. I've never had any great help with them and have relied mainly on senior students to get the most accurate information. The secretaries, counselor, etc will all tell you different things. Getting a straight answer can be extremely difficult and frustrating so your best bet is to talk to someone in the program and they can probably tell you everything you need to know, since they have gone through the process and are in the prgram. If You have any more questions, feel free to ask!
