Hey everybody! I just wanted to start a thread where all of us who are beginning the stressful process of worrying over Lonestar admissions can give each other some support! I'm planning on applying to LSC-Montgomery - retaking Psych 2301 in a Second 8 Weeks class to get an*A,* and getting ready to take the HESI in November when Moco's testing opens. I'm freaking out over how much is on the line...must make an *A!* Must blow HESI out of the water!!!!!
Anyway, just wanted to say good luck to everyone as their finishing up their prereqs and preparing for the HESI and ask...
LoneStar hopefuls...WHERE YOU AT?!! :heartbeat
Thanks oxcuteinpinkox! I'm going to start a file to start keeping track of all of that recommendations, so that when the time comes, I have it.
Thangbom- I'm glad that you posted that...I figured as much. I'm hoping to get it done the weekend after I finish up pharmacology (first summer session), so I should have it knocked out before orientation anyway. I can deal with surprises, but I like to have my ducks in a row.
Erica- I'm wondering about your letter too. Anything yet? I'd be really surprised if you didn't get in.
As far as the Hep B shots go, I still haven't heard back from my doctor's office, so I went ahead and stopped by the nursing office too. At first she thought I hadn't started them, but once I clarified that I've already had two and my third is not due until June, she said I'm fine. So, anyone else who may be in a similar situation, you're probably okay, but if you haven't started them, you may have an issue. I'm still going to try to get mine done in April anyway...again with those ducks.

humm.. Why didn't i think about taking Pharm in the summer? What campus are you taking it at? Or if anyone know of a good teacher at Cy-Fair, please drop me a pm. I need to register fast.

edit: i know why i didn't now, i wasn't sure if i was going to have another 5 semesters there and have was worried that all my credits might not transfer.
humm.. ok, i wan't sure of how it work so i called the school (Cy-Fair) and they said that if you are attending cy-Fair, they won't take the pharm, if it was taken outside the program. However, if you have taken it from another campus, they will transfer. Odd I know, but that's how it works. So if you plan to take it over the summer and will be going to Cy-Fair, take pharm at a different campus and you will be ok.

Hey EricaSAFJAF, did you get a letter yet from North Harris?

EricaSAFJAF, my friend (on whose behalf I've been lurking on here) who has applied to North Harris as their first choice hasn't received a letter yet either!! They had one address on record and a different one on the application. Letter hasn't arrived to either address!! Called the school and lady said to wait it out a few days since they mailed out 500 letters!!! UGH!! This is killing me and it's not even my life!!

Kathrine-I believe I read in the handbook that all tattoos had to be covered. It's an online handbook so you can read through it. I kind of skimmed over that part since I don't have any. I guess you would need to wear a long sleeved shirt or a bandage over it.be-a-nurse-Go to "search for classes" on the lonestar website and click on clinical I under the fall schedule.
Thank you very much, Heathers21.

Hey guys!
I am in my third semester at Kingwood. I just thought I would shine some light on the stethoscope topic. I know that Kingwood is not picky as to what stethoscope you have. You just need to be able to hear even in a noisy environment because it will not always be quiet for you to pick up on heart sounds, lung sounds, etc. I purchased a littmann lightweight II S.E and I LOVE it. It fits very easily under blood pressure cuffs (even though most hospitals are using digital bp machines now). Everyone told me before I started nursing school that stethoscopes walk off. I have not seen an issue with this, the only people that have lost theirs is those who do not put them away. Half the time they are around your neck or in your scrub pockets so you should be fine. If you are concerned about losing it their are several different ways to personalize them. Allheart.com is an excellent website to use for ordering. I also recommended to those who are buying books out of pocket and not through financial aid to order your books through amazon.com. After orientation would be a perfect time as they should give you the list of books and ISBN numbers. I would also recommend buying a rolling bag of some sort. You will probably just use the rolling bag first and second semester but trust me I NEVER wanted to be caught dead with one of those bags, but your shoulders will appreciate you purchasing one. Because you might have to be on campus for lecture and lab and you will need books, notebooks, supplies etc. for these classes and a backpack will not do you justice. Also, when purchasing scrubs I am not sure how picky north harris, cyfair, and montgomery are but Kingwood allowed us to go to whatever store and pick whatever style they just had to be a certain color. Ask the stores if they give a student discount, alot of stores do. I would also plan on this summer creating a place in your home that you will be able to study. Because once school starts it will take off full speed and you will have NO time. You need a large space that you can spread out with all of your books. For those of you guys that will be working full time during school it CAN be done. I worked full-time and attended school and although it can be A TON of work, it goes by SO fast. Well good luck to everyone, hopefully this information helps. I know what it is like being SO excited and wondering what to buy. Oh, and alot of the things on the supply list are included in your nurse supply pack that they will give you the first week or so of lab first semester. So, make sure you are not buying these items twice. CONGRATS, you're in RELAX... it will be the last time you relax for two years
