FALL 2020 Johns Hopkins MSN: Entry into Nursing

Nursing Students School Programs

Updated:   Published

Hello everyone,

I'm currently preparing to apply to JHSON MSN: Entry into nursing program for fall 2020. I was wondering anyone has an idea what the acceptance criteria is?

I have a very good gpa in undergrad (3.92) so the admissions team told me I do not need to include GRE scores.

Also how many words should our essays be?

Best of Luck!

Oh really!!! phew!!!trying not to sit in from my computer till then.

I'm still yet to complete my prerequisites. Have my last class coming up this spring. I'm just hoping that don't count against me.......

Don’t worry you aren’t alone! Been checking everyday but I know last year (as the previous poster said) people found out before Christmas.

I still have a couple pre-reqs myself and am finishing them up this month.

Wish you the BEST of luck. My only worry is financing the program (assuming I get in).

I also heard from admission office that we should find out the week between Christmas and New Years. They seem to also typically send out acceptance emails on fridays, so I think we may hear on the 20th or the 27th? Fingers crossed for everyone!

I think JHU has very good funding programs from what I've heard. I'm also banking on that. Never the less, we'll always find a way. Good luck!!!

Does any one know how many students are accepted for early admissions?

If one isn't accepted, is the application still reviewed under regular priority deadline or denied?

I'm really worried because I have no healthcare experience. Good grades but no experience. I'm nervous as to what degree that might affect my chances

Really hope to get in because JHUSON is my top choice!

I went to a information session held at CSU East Bay back in early October. Here are my notes from it. Take from them what you like. I had to do screen capture because copying/pasting and editing were not working well.

This was in the MESN FAQ:

What is the class size and faculty-to-student ratio?

Incoming Master's Entry classes are divided into two sections of approximately 60 students for lecture classes. The ratio for clinical is one instructor to six or seven students, and for labs, slightly smaller.

Thank you!

Where is everyone checking the status? On the Nursins CAS website or is there somewhere else? With that many spots available I think our odds should be pretty good. Does anyone know how many people apply?

Checking your status would be on NursingCAS. But other than checking to see if LOR and official transcripts, there's not much other than waiting for verification. You get an email for all those things. If you did those things, it is a wait and see matter.

Actually, we have no idea what the odds are because as you eluded to, we do not know the size of the applicant pool. It's possible because of the class they could be better chances for those who qualify. Then again, it's one of the top programs in the country, which could mean more people may apply. In general, more schools have spots for about ten percent of their respective applicant pools.

My guess, good LOR and essays probably carry a bit more weight than grades. The resume probably falls somewhere in between. JHN SON says they base the decision on the whole person based on the information given. I also think being in the early decision pool may help as well.

Be confident, have some luck, and don't take my spot, LOL.

Hi OyinFutureRN,

I do know a couple of people that got admission in 2018 without any healthcare experience. Try not to worry about it and keep hope alive

Hi,

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement. It definitely lifted my spirit. Fingers crossed and eyes on the prize!!

New to this thread, but I also applied for Fall 2020 toward the end of October :)

Since hitting submit, I’ve been trying not to think about it too much... but I just got a Christmas card in the mail from the school of nursing, and now I can’t stop wondering if this is a good sign, or if they send them to everyone. Thoughts? It’s getting closer and I’m getting more and more anxious!
