Hello everyone,
I'm currently preparing to apply to JHSON MSN: Entry into nursing program for fall 2020. I was wondering anyone has an idea what the acceptance criteria is?
I have a very good gpa in undergrad (3.92) so the admissions team told me I do not need to include GRE scores.
Also how many words should our essays be?
Best of Luck!
You'll probably find many applicants--admission offered, waited listed, and admission denied--all did the same thing. The 3000 characters probably around 450-500 words. If they did not do the limit, they would probably get essays that may have been 3000 words. It is essentially a time-saving maneuver for the admission committee to get through the applications in a timely manner since they do a holistic approach.
Hello,
I'll be graduating this August from this program. I am originally from California. However, I plan to work in Baltimore, MD, for about a year before returning.
Since California is not a compact state, would it be best to take the NCLEX in California? And then transfer the license over to Maryland?
Also, how long does it take to transfer license from California to Maryland?
any clarity on this process would help!
Thank you!

Save your money and apply for licensure in MD. NCLEX is nation wide; it doesn't matter where you take it- what matters is state for which licensure is applied. If you apply for licensure in CA, then you have to pay their fees, then pay MD's fees to endorse. Go straight to MD and use that year to put aside money to endorse to CA.
Basically what Rose said. I would recommend doing the MD license, one because you plan to work in MD and it is required, and two, you can apply for a California license after you gotten a Maryland license when you plan to work in California. Even if California was a compact state, you still have to apply. The difference is really processing time. Many states that are not compact, will grant people a temporary license while they go their process of background checks and so forth.
Also, I would do the MD because the school is very familiar with the Maryland process and many of the common mistakes that students will do. Plus, someone is most likely going to applying for you, so they can help with the process. It can be quite cumbersome.
I know when I was applying for jobs, several were outside Maryland. I explain I was applying for Maryland's because of the school's familiarity and so forth. I also explained I know whichever state the job was in, would honor it, but a matter of how long to get it and that worse case scenario, I would be using a temporary license. The placement coordinators/recruiters and managers all understood and did not express any issues/concerns with my decision. I was still offered some positions.
