FALL 2020 Johns Hopkins MSN: Entry into Nursing

Updated:   Published

Hello everyone,

I'm currently preparing to apply to JHSON MSN: Entry into nursing program for fall 2020. I was wondering anyone has an idea what the acceptance criteria is?

I have a very good gpa in undergrad (3.92) so the admissions team told me I do not need to include GRE scores.

Also how many words should our essays be?

Best of Luck!

Unfortunately I am unable to say what your chances are.

I know JHUSON looks at applicants holistically: your gpa, LOR, volunteer work, any type of work, basically everything you put in your application.

Your work experience should definitely help. I would think diversity helps as well.

I applied for early decision. My nursingCas application says complete, but I haven't received anything from the school saying they got it.

Same here. I think once NursingCAS verifies our grades and degrees, then it’ll be sent to JHU. As long as we submitted it by the deadline though, we are fine. NursingCAS states it may take up to 2 weeks for the verification process.

We will hear the decisions during the last week of December (I was told when I emailed). I hate doing the “waiting game”.

Hopefully I hear back from other programs a bit sooner just in case. So paranoid and worried

Okay great. Thanks so much. Best of luck.

JHUSON alum here. You have a good chance. JHUSON isn't just interested in GPA. They highly value diversity and individuals with relevant life experience and volunteer experience. Being a male and Latino will increase your chances. Good luck!

Nursing CAS dropped my gpa from 3.48 to 3.37 and I’m not sure why/how. I think my letters of recommendation are pretty strong. I didn’t take the GRE but I had ~3.7 gpa in my medical assisting program and a little bit of an upward trend. I had 1.5 years experience working in the radiology department of an ER and for a little over 2 years I’ve been an MA and clinical coordinator in a multi specialty practice.

Your profile looks strong. People on previous threads have constantly complained about their GPA being dropped by nursingCAS, i guess they have a special way of calculating it.

Seems like everyone has some healthcare experience, I don't and it makes me so nervous.

How are you able to check your GPA in NursingCAS i don't see mine

How did you apply for Early decision? I didn't see the option. I did however turn in my app and got verified before November 1st. Is that Early decision?

Thanks so much for your response. I hope I get in! John Hopkins is my first choice.
