Fake nursing/CNA licenses or what?

I was curious about how much experience some of the CNA's and nurses at my LTC had so I looked up their licenses at the state board site. I found most of them at this site. However, some of the nurses and CNA's I looked up had no information about these persons. Is this just a mistake that they are not listed or is it possible that they just have fake documents? What do you think?

Im not trying to sound rude here or anything but how about just trying to mind your own business? Every job I have ever had I have had to give up my ssn and my license number so surely your facility knows that their nurses are licensed. When I was a CNA I was never issued a number, but seriously looking up every coworkers number just to be nosy, thats a bit intrusive don't you think? I would hate to think that my coworkers were doing this type of thing to me to just see what type of "experience" I had.

What's being 'nosey' (is that even a word?) about having pause to question a coworkers credentials? If you have a chance to look at your own state BON website, you'll find that every year, hundreds of imposters (aides, nurses, doctors, etc.) have been found out to be posing as licensed. I like that the OP thought of the idea of such a basic check of credentials, and what a can of worms it may open.

Any licensed person can be tracked by Social Security Number

I would REALLY hope that the OP doesn't have access to her co-workers SSN's....

My state doesn't license CNA's, the CERTIFY them, therefore, looking them up on the BON website isn't going to find them

How in the world do people get nursing positions especially a supervisor without having a licence?? What do they do go to FOOL YOUR BOSS.com and get a fake nursing licence?? Doesn't make a bit of sence to me at all.

I suppose they could provide false documents. I would think it's quite hard to do, though- wouldn't you need ID, a copy of the nursing license and some proof of your degree at a minimum?

Mine too. Wouldn't find a single CNA in the state on the BON's website. That, and many facilities do not require people to be certified to work in the nurse aide role. I know many of the hospitals in my city call them things like PCAs, PCTs, clinical assistants, etc. and many of the people working in these roles are not certified. You really don't need a certification to be able to take a blood pressure. I was never officially certified as a nurses' aide but worked as one during college. My clinical experience was sufficient to qualify me for the role.

I seriously doubt that you have a great number of unlicensed personnel working in your facility. More likely, it's a spelling issue or a legal name issue. This thread reminds me of "Meet the Parents" for some reason when Robert DeNiro was searching all his CIA records for "Greg Focker" when his legal name was actually "Gaylord."

Right!!!!!!!!! Mind your own business..... What kind of person would look up that information??? How about volunteer your time instead of getting into your co workers business??

you need to also consider those CNA's who started working while they were in nursing school, but never actually finished nursing school. One clinical semester would have qualified them to work as CNA's so they would not be licensed.

Questioning 'a' coworker's credentials is not nosey. But sitting down to look up info on everyone on the schedule? Sounds like someone looking to cause trouble for anyone, they don't necessarily care who.

IIRC federal law only requires certification for nursing assistants working in skilled nursing facilities (nursing homes,LTC, etc...) but hospitals are free to train and use UAPs without such requirements.

As to license vs registration each state is different. Some states "license" others merely have a registry of those whom have completed the required course work and met various standards for certification. See: Certified Nurse Aide - New York State Department of Labor

The main push behind the federal law was to have some sort of floor under UAP in terms of education, background and other standards. It also provides for ways familes, nursing home operators and so forth to check the background of a person holding themselves out as a nursing assistant. Presumably this was to address the safety concerns for the often very vunerable population nursing assistants are charged with as patients.

plain and simple. not sure why he/she would waste time looking up licences.
