Hi everybody
I don't know where to start now....I gave the nclex-rn a week ago failed again it was my 3rd time ...need some help and inspiration....Really don't have any idea how to study for this monster again...
i'm truly sorry regarding your misfortune with nclex, however, may i suggest a study partner, also check with your school to see if they offer a review course on the subjects that you feel are your weakness. in addition, don't forget to take some time off for yourself, this is very important. lastly, remember this and i quote " nobody can go back and start a new beginning but anyone can start a new ending"mary robinson....wishing you the very best in all of your future endeavors... aloha~
How much time are you spending with each question? My experience with the NCLEX (wasn't a good one) is that you must move quickly and I think you are being accounted for that too. My "secret formula" for passing the NCLEX is this:
1) Get a nice and wide variety of books with questions
2) Practice 60 questions everyday, no more no less. One minute per question. Put a timer, 60 minutes up, just stop.
3) You are ready when you are averaging 70% of them correct
3) When not practicing questions look at rationales
4) Know all your lab values like it's your life
5) Know what abnormal lab values do
TEST DAY
1) Being nervous is a good sign
2) Sit down like you are going to play a video game, quick reflexes and move on never stop
3) Look for clues, than analyze if the clue is a trap. Go for the most right ELIMINATE THE WRONG ONES FIRST
4) Don't ever spend more than one minute for each question. If you getting close to 60 sec. Give your best stab...don't go on a hunch. If you don't know, stab at random or most likely will fall into the trap set up by the writers
PANIC BUTTON.
Remember this: the NCLEX is testing your ability to solve a problem quickly and with little information about it. IF YOU PANIC imagine you are in the hospital and your mother is having a crisis at the bed in front of you. What would you do? Think in real life situation terms and you will be closer to getting it right unless the questions are about the NCLEX world which don't make sense in real life, you must be able to determine which is which. I hope this helps...take this to heart and you will pass!!
GOOD LUCK
Thank you everyone for your response and support, thank you so much ! All of your post is giving me some encouragement to study again :)
By the way I got my candidate report ..i am below passing level on pharmacology and management of care ,Above the passing level on health promotion & maintenance and the rest are near the passing level...
anyways i am going to study again..i have to pass this test in any cost!!!!!! I am interested for some study partner if anybody interested ...
Hey kcshabi
I did't see your message..just read it but this site did not let me message you
So we have same kind of candidate report..but u know what i was below passing level on safety and infection control on my 2nd time while i failed with 226 question.I think safety and infection control made me fail that time:banghead:.Anyways thank you so much for your encouragement,Thanks a lot !
I also have some free feuer videos which i found on this site.I don't think you are using these ??
You sound ready and confident for the exam.what are you using for the questions ? About me i am just doing saunders cd .This time i don't have money to buy any review course
I am sorry t oo hear. I totally know how you feel. I am also preparing for my 3rd time and I have used some of the same resources you have. This time around I heard good reviews on Pearson Reviews and Rationales- Mary Hogan. Some people say that the questions are quite similar. Yesterday I was doing the comprehensive questions and I came across 3 exact questions I had on the boards. Where are you located?
hi tashy mary kay
first of all thanks friend . i am in mississippi what about you ? so what are you using this time ? when you are testing again ...
good luck !
I took it 3 weeks ago so I am stilling trying to find that 350 to start the process again. I am using Hurst Videos for Content and I am using Pearson Reviews and Rationales for questions they have 5100 questions. Used it for the 1st time yesterday and I found 3 questions (exact) that I had on the boards. I bought it based on recommendations I saw here.. saying it helped them the most and the questions are very similar. Questions are way harder than Saunders for sure. I would still use Hurst for content still and supplement with something else.. just so you are not doing the same questions again.
I truly feel your pain. I just failed my 5th time. I am SO happy you are getting supportive posters on your thread. Please include me as a HUGE hand holder
And pumper upper..:w00t:. We just need to keep plugging away. I too suffer from test anxiety(I know some people think its an excuse but if you have it you know its real) if I may ask has your counseling helped with that? I have been thinking about starting...the medication given to me from my M.D.for test day doesn't work...anyhow. I just wanted to say you are not alone.
Each time I have gotten "above passing standard" in all areas but one. Each test that area changes. 1st test: 120 questions 2nd test: timed out and 225 questions 3rd test:85 4th test: 75 5th test: not sure computers where dumb that day and it
didn't tell me what question I was on...I would guess between 80-120? Maybe? (multiple problems/different story) but just know that you are not alone and if you ever need to talk or anything please email me. My new strategy is I have recreated a test booth in my closet and study in there (a lil crazy:bugeyes: but thinking might help with anxiety) and thinking about taking Kaplans class once I come up with the $$.
Well good luck and like I said just know you are not alone. On a side note a N.P. That I respect VERY much told me the other day she had to take her boards 8x and that in the long run those who fail and have to work harder will be greater nurses in the end. (she is not one to BS you to make you feel better) so I am focusing on that you can too.

I want to test again right around my 46 days so the 19th ish of May my friend looked for me and theres only three days open right now for may when I can test theres only the 19,21,23 open :/
Between my 1st and 2nd attempt there was several months and I think that screwed me up so I am going to do it soon.
My husband also got me Focus Factor to take because my mind is always wondering and I think it helped a bit so I'm going to continue taking it and I've been seeing a counselor to help with my test anxiety. I pray I get this the 4th time :)
