Sounds like a rip-off to me too. Have you considered Unit Secretary? They might be called something else in different places. Can't remember the other titles but they like it if you have some medical knowledge and knowledge of medical terminology.

There are many careers in healthcare. How about pharmacist, occupational therapist, physical therapist, physician's assistant or physician? If you want to get into something faster, you can be a radiology tech, an ultrasound tech, a respiratory therapist--they all are in demand, all pay well, and schooling is relatively quick.

If you are serious about nursing why don't you just wait until you have this health issue resolved.....then re-apply. I would not just give up if nursing is what I really wanted to do, and of course if you expect better health in the future. BTW sounds like a rip off to me too. I'm sorry about your experience in nursing school. I do hope that your health improves and that maybe one day you'll be able to pursue nursing. I know it's a disappointment for now, but medical conditions can and do turn around.

The job you are taking about sounds a little fishy to me. If you have to give them money up front for training, that's one of the hallmark signs of a ripoff. Also, it does cost money to become incorporated, I think (I could be wrong). This sounds like this might be one of those things that you have to buy software, and later on they have you shell out for something else, repeat pattern.

If this is something that you'd like to do, I'd check with the Better Business Bureau in your area. If they have nothing on the company, describe what they want you to purchase and ask them if this sounds like an honest company.

I wanted to pursue nursing in another school but I'm 49. By the time my condition is resolved and I have to take all those prereqs again, it will be too late.

i am so sorry to hear that; keep your head up and your options open. the other term for unit secretary is UA-unit assistant. try that or PCT-patient care tech. :icon_hug:

Good lord, if you live to be the new average of 85, then why in the world do you think that 49 is too old. Do you realize that most of our presidents have been much older than that. I am so sick of everyone telling me I am too old. Who cares, people always get too much in your business, just go for it.

A physician's assistant has ALOT more schooling than an RN !! if she can't study the material for the RN program... and pharmacist?!?????

I have a friend who is a HUC- Health Unit Co-ordinator( unit secretary) and works at a hospital, she loves the job. You could also look into pharmacy tech or medical assitant

First off, are you completely unable to be a nurse, or was it just the failure that is keeping you from becoming one? do you still want to? I am sure that if you apply at some places, given your extenuating circumstances you would be accepted in time. int he meanwhile, apply to physician offices as an unlic. medical assistant, or get your medical assistant training/certificate. or what about being an OR tech? there are lots of opportunities. don't give up!

I don't think I'm too old, just too old to want to go through 2 years of prereqs followed by the long waiting list, then two years of nursing school. I want to start working. It we didn't have the wait list, I'd probably try it again. As it stands now, it a dream that will never be fulfilled.

If you have already finished your pre-reqs, and it sounds like you have because you said you were in the nursing program; you don't have to take the pre-reqs again to apply to another program. Try another program, tell them the truth, a health crisis prevented you from completing nursing school the first time. Or you could try LPN school which is generally a shorted program so you could start working sooner.
