Failed Nursing School....Changing Career Path?

Published

HI.

I just failed nursing school. I am 23 years old. Considering other career paths for a while. Social Work has been on my mind for some time. Does anyone know if Social Work is a rewarding and a good career to invest in? Anyone that has failed nursing school...did you decide to pursue in nursing or changed career paths?

All comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I failed an ADN program at the age of 19...test anxiety did it-I didn't realize it at the time that I had it.

I continued working as a CNA, and realized that I wanted to continue into nursing-other professions were not a fit for me. I enrolled into PN school-my sister basically screamed at me to do it (I thank her for doing this, lol :) ) and passed PN school and my boards the first time.

I enjoyed being a LPN; when I was almost at my two year mark as a LPN at a Rehab hospital, I learned that I couldn't be certified in Rehab nursing or Pediatrics or any field; I had to be an RN. I looked into a local university that would take me as an LPN and went from there. After a minor and major setback, I went back and was accepted into the program in 2009, finished in 2011, licensed 2012, and have been an RN for almost 18 months. I was a LPN for 7 years.

I didn't leave nursing; I was able to find my issue was test anxiety, and found out I had a mood disorder trait, learned coping techniques for my test anxiety, and completed my goal-a career that was a fit for me.

Sometimes a setback is preparation for a comeback...review why happened, if there are ways that you can improve upon if you see nursing as a career. Best wishes on whatever you decide. :)

LOL, I'm actually going into nursing FROM social work :)

It's a good career, but just like nursing you need more and more initials after your name to get the jobs. I had been at the top of my pay scale for my degree but was pretty burnt out so instead of going for more education that way, I'm switching to nursing because it's always something I have wanted to do

Is there an "AllSocialWorkers" equivalent website? Seems to me that's where you have to ask.

I think we have many members who can offer insight just like krisiepoo who have chosen nursing as a second career path

Hello, did you end up choosing something else?
