failed nursing class

First of all, don't give up. There is ALWAYS time to change.

Do some serious thinking...be honest with yourself as to why the past semester went the way it did.

Was it....

- Nursing isn't really your passion, you didn't want to do the work?

- Your study skills were poor....if this is the case and you really do feel like you tried as hard as you could you need to consider your study skills. Your school shoudl have resources to help you with this. Study at the same place everyday, set aside specific time to only study, etc.

- You really didn't try hard enough (or at all). If this is the case then reconsider your reasons for wanting to be a nurse. If you truly decide they are strong enough then vow to buckle down and try harder next semester!

- If you spent too much time on other commitments (work, for example). You may need to cut your hours and take loans or try to go to school part time while working....or try to get a job that allows you to study. If it was family commitments perhaps trying to do this part time might be easier as well.

- If something was psychologically upsetting to you, seek help.

- If your physical health was poor, seek help.

You can always change. Vow to do better next time and take the necessary steps to do so.

Reapply to hte program if you decide that your heart is in nursing.

And remember, you do get second chances.

But not many more than that :)

I am so sorry you are having a rough time. I almost failed one of my nursing classes and it was awful. I learned so much from it and realized why I was not doing well. At that point I was going through alot of personal things in my life and it was stressing me out. I was not even able to concentrate on studying at all. My advice to you is to not give up. I was about to and I am so glad that I did not. I pushed through and I am now in my last semester. There is no easy way to deal with failing classes but don't let it define you as a person. You are not a failer, you just had trouble with a class. Nursing is really hard so don't get down on yourself for it. Just sit down and really think about why you want to be a nurse. If you cannot truly find passion for nursing then that is ok. It just means that there is something even better for you out there. Good luck and keep up the good work. If you choose to continue with nursing school then just remember that YOU CAN DO IT!!!!

Ditto want2banursesoon. They gave some great advice. I'd really take this time to reflect and figure out where you might have gone off track. Use this as a lesson learned and good luck in the future!

Youre not alone, a lot of people are going through the same thing and its sad. You put all that work into something, and then to just get the boot stinks.

I have a question, is there any way you saw this coming? I knew going into my final what my average was, and what I needed to achieve to go on to the next semester. I got verrrrrrrrry lazy before the final, didnt even want to touch my textbook but like 2 days before the final it was crunch time and i worked my buns off.

The questions are hard, and its going to get harder. I actually googled and came across allnurses when I was curious to see which semester was the hardest/easiest ...They all pretty much said fundamentals was the easiest

Pick yourself up, take a deep breath. I know you are going to be MORE focused and determined to finish next time around. You might even finish top of your class! Things dont always happen the way we want them to in life, if it did I wouldve been an RN 5 years ago!

This is one little flub in your plan, yes its going to set you back. Are you going to be an RN in the near future? Yes. Can anyone take that from you? No.

Hey, at least you didnt get alllllllllll the way to the end and get the boot for something silly like sleeping during clinical. Then you have to start ALLLLLLLL over!

You are in control of your own destiny, and I am sure you learned a great lesson from this experience. Good luck!

The fact that you failed just means you're going to do it right the next time.

Do not allow this to stop you; pick yourself up, dust yourself off and do it right the next semester!

I failed my first semester of nursing school too and it was devastating. I cried for a week. but I reapplied and went through the class that I had failed just fine. You will see that the second time around is much easier. You will realize that you already know alot of the material so then you can really focus on your weaknesses.

Nursing school is not easy but giving up is not an option. You have to make it through. This is the way that I look at it.

You have to develop better study habits because it only gets harder from where you are now. I know this for a fact because Im going into my 3rd semester and its been challenging. So, keep your head up and your mind positive and you'll be fine. Good luck.

Here is a good philosophy to live by: The failure in not the man who fell, but the man who refused to get up!

Learn from the experience. Evaluate your study skills, your outside of NS work load, etc. What can you do better and then try again.

In my school, if you fail one of the nursing classes, they drop you back a group. If you fail a class in the same semester (ie: each semester's courses are pre-determined so dropping back, you will repeat all of them), you will be dropped from the program permanently.

You can do this!

You sound like you have the heart of a nurse! Do not give up. I know you feel bad now but look at the benefits of redoing the class---you will know what is gonna be expected of you and you never know you may even be able to help another student that is having a hard time(which will boost your self-confidence). If this is what you really want to do jus Don't give up! and know that your not the only one, and i believe everything happens for a reason, and this could be what makes you work even harder and make it all the way through...I know you can do it, and make sure you tell yourself that everyday! good luck
