Failed Nclex after 2 years now what?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

I need advice,

I recently just took the nclex on October 10th and feel like I have failed. I did the "good pop up" and got the bad pop up. I had 255 questions and ran out of time. This was my 4th time taking the NCLEX and I have spent 2 years studying for it. I do not know if I have officially passed but I know that I have after my 4th time taking it. I cannot seem to pass it. I am completely devastated and heart broken. I have not stepped foot in a hospital since I graduated in 2017. At this point I really do not know what to do. There has been so many times where I thought I was going to pass but I have not. I have done World, Kaplan, and ATI. I even have a tutor.

I am thinking about applying for a nursing assistant job now until I pass but idk who will even hire me at this point. I do have my bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a Kinesiology degree. I have put my life on hold for 2 years to try and pass this test. I have worked at a job in the meantime only two times a week but I have to work full time now. My nursing student loan has to be paid.

So basically anyone that has encouragement or any advice on what to do I would appreciate it!!

Hello,

I'm sorry to hear that. Seeing as how you made it to 255 questions with the time running out, maybe you are wasting too much time overthinking questions? Taking time on a question isn't a bad thing, but the NCLEX is tricky like that. I've noticed in my practice exams that the ones I got wrong were the ones I kept second-guessing myself on. Sometimes you just gotta go with your gut, choose and hit next, no matter how scary. You shouldn't be taking more than 1 minute to answer some of the questions on the exam because they may end up being super simple but the anxiety makes you overthink.

When you study, are you studying in practice mode or exam mode? You say you're doing 75-100 questions for 8 hours a day but is that through only one study application or across multiple applications (i.e, 20 q's in UWorld then 40 q's in Kaplan then another 40 in ATI). I think it's more helpful by focusing on one at a time (I found UWorld's qbank sufficient enough on its own to prepare for the NCLEX) so you don't become overwhelmed.

Also when studying, remember to take breaks. Sitting at a desk for hours at a time without breaks won't help you at all. Give your brain some time to process what it has just learned then get back into it and review.

Hope these study tips help. Focus on improving your studying tactics and I promise you will get your license soon. Best of luck to you!

Don’t be harsh on yourself nursing is hard imagine youve been into school just to get your degree that’s a big achievement already. I’m sure you’ll get your license soon in gods perfect timing ? Just trust god but of course keep studying and don’t give up ??

ilovelife1234 you are close. keep going. stay with it. do not give up. your scores will climb.

in order to pass nclex, as you may already know, you do not have to be above the passing standard in all categories.

It sounds like you ran out of gas toward the end. 10 more questions and you may have passed. I am no expert but if you would like to go over some questions sometime, let me know.

hello nurse Mike, please let me know how to contact you cuz I need help in questions. Thanks

2 BIGGEST TIPS!!!

#1 I highly recommend relearning nursing fundamentals, cellular pathology and systemic inflammation pathways from a ICU / critical care perspective really really well to anticipate nursing managements . without science knowledge it will be a challenge to answer questions.

#2 i would say please get a clear understanding on the nclex test plan and learn how questions are written. The more you understand how questions are written from a test writer stand point the better

Start with saunders and your nursing textbooks with pathophysiolgy book next to it. Go old school.
