Failed the NCLEX

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hello everyone,

I see so many posts on people passing the boards their first try but unfortunately, I am one who didn't. I know I am not alone but I wanted to hear from anyone who may have had similar problems with anxiety in taking the NCLEX. I know for me I pushed myself way too soon to take the test after graduating, getting married, honeymooning and taking the test the following week.

After about question 88 I had a panic attack and my pulse started racing. I never recovered and the computer shut off at 155 questions. I had no idea how I did until today.

I plan on taking Kaplan's online course as my second prep class and hope it helps better than the first course I took.

So if anyone has any words of wisdom for me, I would appreciate it.

Here's to Abraham Lincoln who never gave up and neither will I.

((((Hugs)))) You just said it all with your signature...Don't give up!

jacel311,

I'm sorry to hear about this, but you can and will pass!

Keep studying! You have the right attitude to make this happen!

Hugs to you!

I am far from taking the test, but I just wanted to say hang in there! You've got a great attitude. I have had many a panic attacks, they are horrible, cuz you just blank out! Next time, you will be much more relaxed.

It always takes me the long, wide, windey way around. I'll probably take it a couple of times myself!

God bless, Heather

Hang in there! You will pass the next go around with that attitude and conviction. One of our best graduating students did the same thing; she started a new job, got married, honeymooned and "then" took the test. Well.. of course she failed too. She later passed with the minimum of questions (and you will too with studying).

The Kaplan Course is great. I took to for "test anxiety" and I am glad I did. It shows you where you are week and gets you focused!

Let us know how you are doing and let us have the honor of congratulating you when you pass!

Thank you everyone for the kind words and encouragement.

I have a renewed sense of hope that this happened for reasons I don't know now, but I will eventually understand later. Perhaps with apprehension, I was rushed to be a nurse and with 3 months of working as a graduate nurse, I will feel more confident, more at ease and more like I am able to handle what nursing requires of me.

It is stories of those nurses who did fail their first attempts and went on to greater things that I need to hear. In fact, one of my favorite professors had the same thing happen to her and she is the finest nurse I know.

Thank you again and I will definitely keep you posted.

Jacel

I haven't taken mine yet, but will not be surprised if I don't pass, because I've been stressing so much over this.

Just because you don't pass the first time, it does not mean you won't make an outstanding nurse.

Specializes in Geriatrics/Alzheimer's.

You have been through alot, nursing school, graduating, getting married, the honeymoon, and then taking the NCLEX!!! I think your body told you to take a break, relax, take time studying at your own pace. Then when you feel less stressed and more sure of the material, try again. Marriage and the adjustment to a new way of life can be highly stressful in itself. I was recently married August 9, 2002, and we are still adjusting to our new wonderful life together. Also Kaplan is a great way to go. Good luck and congratulations on your marriage.

Hey there Jacel

Keep your head up high. Most often tests are about application, you had a lot on your plate and understandably so. This time just focus on Kaplan and NYCLEX. I am sure you will pass. There is a nurse at my hospital who failed the first time, she then took the online Kaplan course and passed. She is an AMAZING nurse. I had her as a preceptor a few times, and let me tell you she knows her stuff. SHe is very intelligent and excellent at her job. Just keep in mind that everyone is entitled to some failure in their lives, and without it when you do have success it makes it that much sweeter:) Good luck

Wow,

Thank you again everyone, it is so nice to hear all the encouragement.

I went to my corporate orientation today, and it was a good experience. It kept me thinking about my goal and how much I want to be a nurse. My manager was very supportive when I explained to her about failing and I will be starting out as a graduate nurse on my floor. I feel that this will be beneficial as I can learn my way around, orient myself to the way things work and also talk to other nurses who went through similar problems.

I can't thank you all enough, you have put a smile on my face.

Here's to never quiting!

I would like to suggest the Hurst Review. It is great--Marlene Hurst coordinates it and has a 99% pass rate for those taking her class. You can email her at [email protected] and visit the web site at http://www.hurstreview.com.

Good luck and I admire your positive attitude.
