  1. EM1995 I am sorry you and your patients had to go through that experience. Very sad for all involved. Lets just all band together and start our own hospice!!!! dee
  2. Thanks Linda!!! I had to tell a half truth...if there is such a thing...to my patients. I was willing to do this for closure for me and them. Have been finished for 2 weeks now and still miss certain ones. Fortunately, my friend (she is also planning to resign) took over these patients and she gives me updates. We are in the same area. Would you email or PM me as I would love to compare notes on Hospice in our area. I don't want to get in to the same situation I just left. Thanks, Dee
  3. I also resigned from my job about 2 weeks ago, but was allowed to say good-bye to my patients. This made their transition to another nurse so much easier. I am now searching for a new job.
  4. Hi, Just for the record, Flight Attendants no longer have a height/weight requirement per se. They still have to be able to reach the overhead bins. Also certain parameters for safety such as being able to fit through the exit window exits, etc. This was a major breakthrough for those of us in the industry promoting the major safety functions of flight attendants. Nurses should have the same parameters---competence and safety in caring for the patients(passengers). Randall RN BSN 2 years; Flight Attendant 10 years PS-size no issue for me--5'10" 135
  5. May 2003 new grad adding my $.02 in...... I agree with most of Roland's assessment of nsg school in this day and age. I am 44yr old and managed to graduate with 4.0. Passed NCLEX on first attempt. So was successful. However, I feel the education process is part of what is wrong with our profession today.( Also have a BS in business administration so can compare professionalism in the education process somewhat.) My instructors also didn't seem to know what material was covered in the reading and what text books we were using. Test questions were from who knows where. We played lots of games in the name of critical thinking. I always thought it important to teach the basics first and then learn how to put it all together. Sort of how we learned the alphabet and then to read and spell. In my nsg school we just skipped to the critical thinking part without the instructors "instructing" anything. Anyway, I felt I needed a "refund" after teaching myself for 2 years. As I said just my two cents worth.
  6. New grad--May $20/hr + benefits
  7. Just finished my last med-surg clinical today!!!! Can honestly say that all the nurses were very helpful and encouraging to me. Excellent experience. I learned a lot and the staff was so willing to show me the better-best way to do things. The "real" way--not just the book way. It was a great learning opportunity. However not everyone in our group was as fortunate. So a big thank-you to all you who take the time to mentor us rookies--we look up to you and truly want to achieve the level of expertise that you have worked hard for. For the others---"Don't shoot the reinforcements"--we're working very hard to graduate and help ease that nursing shortage. On to ICU---a little nervous but hopefully it won't totally overwhelm me.
  8. YES YES YES I am just hanging on---it seems we have more class work this semester than any previous. I didn't do well on the first quiz--usually make high B or A. So now my confidence is shaken. Does anyone else have to take a graduation test? Ours is from the ERI company and the school has set scores we have to make or don't graduate. Randall
