Dear student who did that to a physician,
Please don't do that again. At least in my presence.
That chart does not belong to you because you have a careplan to do. You made a mistake of making your rounds when the physician/care team was in situ making rounds preparing discharges, and demanding that HE bring it back to you because YOU'RE not done makes your upbringing questionable. You are not a feral person, so don't act like one.
Believe it or not, the world does not revolve around you, and that unprofessionalism makes me remember your face when you're looking for a job. And Oh yes..I remember behaviors and faces..and this, after all, is really, truly a small world.
Thank you.
That is too funny. When I was in school we never had advance view of the chart. And we were required to list and analyze all dx, labs, reports, suggest dx if none yet... as well as do a careplan. Now one hospital was not emr based, yeah, still the old fashioned paper charting and oh so small nursing stations as well. No cubbies in hallways either. I laugh at how we had to ride the rail in order to get our info and not upset the apple cart! I don't believe anybody did what Jo witnessed. LOL!!!
However, I worried I might get a little mouthy just by habit having worked closely with a doc for a few years. I cringe when I think I just might easily have slipped during clinical from being tired and said to some unknown doc, "Hey, don't you run off with that" or, "Don't leave without telling me" or "Did you call those people I told you to call? Yeah? well then give me their charts back... no, here take them back, you didn't document" "What script? You forgot to document"...
Still a little worried I might "give orders"
And you know this little twit is just marking time until she achieves her real goal - managment.
Many years ago I told a first semester the doctor needed a chart. Ignoring my outstretched hand, she said "I'm almost done." I turned around, saying over my shoulder, "you take it to him, then." She chased after me like she was trying to serve me with a subpoena. Too late. She had to explain to the cranky doc why she was hiding charts.
Unquestionably, this incident is a mild one, compared to the many incidents I have witness in my 35+yrs in nursing. In addition, I recall one of many incidents when this nurse known for her flirtatiousness, wrote a note to a particular married doctor in the patients progress note, and so happen that the CEO picked up the chart prior the doctor:eek: another one was this nurse Yelled from the top of her lungs "Hey you doctor, NO NOT YOU, THE FAT ONE" ... so this truly doesn't surprise me, although it is truly a lack of self confidence & professionalism it occurs more often that one can imagine.
