Excelsior Students- how often do you test?

Published

Hello i have a question for all excelsior students.... how often do you test? also realisticly how much do you study before each exam... i see some ppl set their exam date with hopes of studying like a month... but then only study for a week before... is this true? I am a very self motivated fast pace student... i cant study for a month... i have to cram for like a week thats how i have always studied and i graduated with honors with my LPN... can i expect to do the same?

I'd recommend Health Safety first (the old NC1).

Here are my exam dates. I tested under the old curriculum, so the exam names have changed, but you get the idea:

Nursing Concepts 1 - 06/04/2007

Nursing Concepts 2 - 07/03/2007

Nursing Concepts 3 - 07/31/2007

Nursing Concepts 4 - 09/04/2007

Nursing Concepts 7 - 09/17/2007

Nursing Concepts 5 - 09/26/2007

Nursing Concepts 6 - 10/17/2007

September was a bit of a crazy month. :D

Hi,

Great accomplishment:yeah:...did you use a particular study material?

No, I used a variety of materials -- texts, notes from studygroup101, etc. -- whatever it took for me to look at the EC exam content guide and know that I had a grasp of the contents.

a bit late responding, but i took my first one after 3wks of studying, it was Health and Safety, but then i started A&P right after and i'm STILL studying for it. I had planned to take one every month but life and kids and work and the material got in the way! This one has been a struggle for me and it's my second exam. However, i looked over transitions and i think it's going to be a quick study for that one for me at least! =) Good luck, and btw, you can do any gen eds you know you need before the evaluation is done as well as Health and Safety and Transitions! It took them three weeks to give me my unofficial review back, and in that time i did H&S. Best of Luck

just applied on monday and they havent received my transcripts yet as of friday... those went out on monday also!!! So i was going to start studying for the first test... but i dont know where to start... i got the free study guide thingy off of the excelsior websites... i just am unsure on how im going to tackle the info... suggestions are welcome and appriciated!

Also--- i was looking into studygroup101 and larendts... i want them both but they are a little pricey for my tight budget right now!! i just got married :) anyone have any other suggestions? i have been looking around for free stuff but im not seeing anything :(

I attempted to do the Excelsior program back in 2008, so I'm stuck with the previous textbook and study notes. I see that Excelsior has updated the content guides. Does anyone know if the exams and information have changed dramatically? Can I still use my notes and books from before?

Your books shouldn't be too outdated, and you can print off the study guides for free from the website.

You can at least go one edition down. Usually there is little to no difference. Also try sites like half.com, chegg.com, where you can get extremely discounted texts, or even rent texts.

I recently started with the Excelsior program too. I've not taken my first exam yet. The nice thing about this program vs being in a traditional classroom setting, is the study at your own pace. And if "stuff" happens, no biggie, so you extend it a little bit longer. Are you using your Academic Guidance Planner? My advisor told me to keep this book handy like a Bible, going by the suggestions listed in this book for your personal study personality will be your best guide.
