To all the self righteous "nurses" out there who have nothing better to do but make this girl feel worse about herself, all I can say is...."Karma is a *****". Remember the old saying about stones and glass houses? Are you people really that amazing at being nurses that you could handle a patient load of 28-48 patients and NOT make the same mistake as a new nurse? I've been a nurse for over 17 years and I've ONLY worked in acute care....I've seen dozens and dozens of mistakes made by new nurses and seasoned nurses! No one gets into nursing with the intention to harm someone, but mistakes do happen and wouldn't it be nice if you could be supported by your fellow nurses instead of being made to feel like a murderer! To the OP.....I am honestly so sorry that you had to have such a horrible experience. I'm sorry that nursing has turned into big business and you weren't given the tools or the time to grow as a nurse before being put into such a scary position. I'm sorry you have to listen to ignorant, self righteous nurses make you feel even worse about yourself. Ignore them, unfortunately in every area of nursing...acute or long term care, you will come across these miserable, judgemental people. Just take comfort in the fact that they too have made mistakes and are just too arrogant and self righteous to admit it to you or themselves. Everyone has made a mistake that in some way, big or small has caused harm to a patient. It's the decent nurse that realizes that we are all human and that all we can do is learn from them, try harder and move on. Now, stop smoking and quit taking sleeping pills....pull up your big girl undies and MOVE ON FROM THIS! Use your time in a more constructive way and look for a better, safer job. Good luck.

Just saw your post and I'm so sorry you have to go through this again. I can't imagine going through the CPNE pregnant...omg...you are so brave. Give yourself some time off and enjoy the rest of your pregnancy and sign up for the CPNE a few months after your baby is born and your hormones settle down. Maybe you'll be able to use some xanax when your not pregnant (unless you're breastfeeding) and that will help with the nerves a bit. You really are an inspiration with your determination, I truly admire you. Congratulations on your forthcoming bundle of joy, and just think of all the stories you'll have for "junior" about how Mommy became an RN!

I have gotten 2 jobs that way. My very first job was gotten through a phone call to the nurse manager of the unit I was interested in and the job I have now came from a phone call to the hospital DON. In this economy you HAVE to find creative ways to find jobs.

I just graduated on May 20, 2011. I enrolled May 2010, so it took me exactly a year to complete. I took all of my nursing exams in under 2 months but I was also completing my pre-reqs at my community college. I LOVED Excelsiors program and would highly recommend it. The CPNE is a nightmare (stress wise, not content) but other than that I think it's great. I plan on continuing with EC for my BSN. Message me if you have any questions.

Do yourself a favor and don't take her class! I had the same experience with Chemistry and I thought to myself "how bad can he really be?" and it turned out he was just exactly how he was described on RMP. I busted my butt to pass the class because all he did was drink ice tea and tell stories about riding motorcycles.

I myself have had to take my son to the ER for an earache when I didn't have the money to go to our primary care doctor. I was working as a nurse but getting called off all the time for low census and my husband had just started a new job after being laid off for 3 months. I come from a "well off" family and I have never known what it is like to not have money. I would rather die than ask for money from my family so we just did our best until things got better. Now I am debt free and I have a very nice life, but I will never forget how I felt during that time. Do people abuse the system? Absolutely. But are there good people out there that are just on temporary hard times? Absolutely. I love how people look at a group of people and refer to them as "those people". Be careful, you never know what lies ahead and you just may find yourself being one of "those people". Our country needs universal health care in my opinion. No one should have to choose between buying groceries and going to the doctor. Just my opinion.

The York site was great, I passed with no repeats. I got the date I wanted.

I just took a business communication class and I think it's appropriate to email your resignation as long as you ALSO mail a formal letter of resignation. Communication has changed and many important business transactions are done via computer, times are definitely changing. What was once considered unprofessional may soon become the norm. I got that message first and then a few hours later I got the "good" pop up. I checked my quick results 2 days later and I got a PASS. Still waiting for the Pa. BON to update their website so my job can verify my license! I took my test on June 1st and called the BON today and they told me it could take anywhere from 2days to 30days to update....grrrr.

I know, I know....I've seen this thread before, but I still have some questions. My main question is why most people who graduate from excelsior for their ASN, don't finish their BSN with them? I loved excelsior's ASN program, so I'm hoping to love the BSN program just as much. I haven't signed up yet but I plan to this week and I wanted some input. Any thoughts?
