Excelsior Students- how often do you test?

Hello i have a question for all excelsior students.... how often do you test? also realisticly how much do you study before each exam... i see some ppl set their exam date with hopes of studying like a month... but then only study for a week before... is this true? I am a very self motivated fast pace student... i cant study for a month... i have to cram for like a week thats how i have always studied and i graduated with honors with my LPN... can i expect to do the same?

You will have a better idea of how long it takes you to successfully prepare once you have taken your first test.

It took me anywhere from 2-6 weeks to test, but when it took me 6 weeks that was because I really didn't get motivated until the last 2 weeks. I'm like you, I study quickly and retain the info after I read it once so I don't need to go over it a thousand times. But like Caliotter said, you'll def know better after your first test.

I used to plan 4-5 weeks and broke the information down (by using a study guide from ebay). My goal was to have the information covered by the 3-4 week, take a practice exam, study the answers and rationale and then take the 2nd practice exam about 4 days before the actual test date. This worked well for me and allowed me to get through the material in a reasonable amount of time. Good luck!

caliotter is right, take the first exam and you will know. it took me a long time to take the health and safety because i did not know how to study for it. then, i was taking exam 2-3 weeks after one another. transitions i took after 9 days. it depends whether you are confident or not. be careful though because i got too confident that i failed my last exam and it took me 3 months to recover. i cannot wait to be done already. i don't want to dream about cpne and careplans any more.

good luck,

angel

Here are my exam dates. I tested under the old curriculum, so the exam names have changed, but you get the idea:

Nursing Concepts 1 – 06/04/2007

Nursing Concepts 2 – 07/03/2007

Nursing Concepts 3 – 07/31/2007

Nursing Concepts 4 – 09/04/2007

Nursing Concepts 7 – 09/17/2007

Nursing Concepts 5 – 09/26/2007

Nursing Concepts 6 – 10/17/2007

September was a bit of a crazy month. :D

Rate now July is a busy month for me-doing all three life spans. Get em over with ;-)

While you are waiting, you can register for and start preparing for the first nursing test. You can take the first one without being enrolled yet.

I'd recommend Health Safety first (the old NC1).
