Excelsior Essentials Health Safety study question.

Published

I just downloaded the course content guide for the Essentials: Health Safety nursing course through Excelsior College. I am a little overwhelmed with where I should start since this is my first time taking this approach.

I downloaded the StudyGroup 101 guide which seems to outline things pretty well. My question is A) should I purchase and read the million dollars worth of books Excelsior recommends or is the StudyGroup 101 guide along with the Excelsior practice tests sufficient. I don't want to miss out on content I should be studying but no reason spending so much money if it is all in the guide already

ANY comments or input would be tremendously appreciated!!!

I do not have any of the recommended texts but I use SG101, the EC practice exams and my Saunders book. The saunders was the best investment so far. FOr H&S its basically a review from LPN school, I actually did not studying for it. For Transitions I used SG101 only. For LS1 I used the Saunders and Practice tests. For Repro, which I am studying for now, I'm using a little SG101, Practice exams, Saunders and the older version of the textbook they recommend only because I found it on CHeggs for less than 20.00.

Hi, I was just wondering which Saunders book you have? I looked on Amazon but there was quite a few to choose from. Thanks!

Does anyone do all of the reading that Excelsior recommends for each exam? And, if not, how well has that been working? I have been doing the reading and using the Studyguide101 for review. It is becomming very time consumming and is not always very beneficial. However, I do not always recognize this until the test is over. Any advice is welcome. I am currently working on the Health and Safety exam and am an LPN with not much in the way of floor experience.

Hello OP, we are in the same boat...im also studying for the Health Safety portion...my exam is November 8th @ 10am..(after rescheduling 3 times...out of fear..lol...) i am using the StudyGroup101 notes...bc they are very thorough..and those EC books are very expensive...Ive heard of people only using SG and passing w/ high grades on every exam...so for now this is my approach..i do believe i will invest in that Saunders books though...it definetly was a worthy investment when i was in LPN school...God speed w/ your studying...((Future RN)) Gawd help me!! LOL :bowingpur

For those who have taken the health safety exam, are there any math calculations on it and the practice exam as well? it seems like this isn't going to be a difficult exam but i was just curious.

If i can recall well there was one math calculation when i took it.

I think I had 1 math question, but can't seem to recall what it was.

That's not bad at all. when i took the nclex pn my first question was a math problem. i hate math. i'm gonna brush up just in case i get a few math problems.

here is some good info for this test:

I take mine tomorrow morning. been using SG101 guide (does anyone else think their practice tests have a lot of wrong answers?), the excelsior practice exams and today I got the 2007 Saunders nclex review from the library. not much on there for this test that I can find, but it had a lot of stuff that would have helped for my first test (transitions).
