4550- Evidence Based Nursing

Nursing Students Ohio University

From looking at the classes starting in fall, I'm guessing that Evidence Based nursing is replacing Research? Anyone have any idea if stats is still required prior to taking this, as it was with Research?

I took the week 3 quiz this morning and thought the difficulty was similar to past week quizzes. For those who have not yet taken it, knowing the info on your study guide should help you a lot. I seriously had difficulty reading the chapters and skimmed over much of them. I did go over the study guide a lot and did decent on the quiz. (missed 5) I haven't completed my DB posting yet but looked over some others that have posted. There are a lot of people who included everything that was requested in both sets of directions. I thought it was clarified that we only needed to address the first set of directions? Maybe these others didn't get the new info????

I'm a bit confused again with the DB posting. I looked over others' posts again, 18 of them, and only found one person who did not include the OU article meta analysis bit. I guess I will be including that in my DB posting. I love clear instructions!

On my DB there is a mix of posts: some with the meta-stuff, some without. Mine is without because those are the instructions I received. I don't understand why they don't PROOFREAD this stuff BEFORE the class commences. The stress associated with a lack of communication is beyond words...especially the words I would choose, lol!

Time to study for the dreaded third quiz. I can't get over how much these quiz grades are worth.

Amen sister, amen.

I just saw the posting saying to omit the meta-analysis, after spending an hour or two locating a suitable one and writing it up.

And for this, we pay nearly $1,000. Nearly beyond absurd.

So I selected that it is a quasi-experimental study as well but does it not seem like it could be a survey study as described in chapter 9?? The article does not really introduce any treatment or change but just surveys and collects data on medical charts. I really do not care at this point, this class is very boring and horrid to me, but I am just wondering since some peeps posted they thought it was neither.

I think it is neither but put quasi so I can get the &*$# done with this class. It was a very poor example study IMO. I hate this class so much it makes my BP rise.

Oh I agree!! I am over it!

Couldn't agree more with all of your conclusions on the article. What a bear that DB post was. That article was quite ambiguous as to what type of design it was. Sheesh.

Oh well...it is posted and I am satisfied...no matter what the TA thinks!! Glad to have something on the board!

I finally posted my DB for this week after getting clarification that " we need to learn to be concise and not long winded and 3 paragraphs should be amble "....well i tried ... also took the quiz.. i did remarkable better on this one.. only missed 3 .. finally feel comfortable with my grade in this class after not doing well the first 2 quizes.. hopefully the last 2 will have study guides and the grade for this DB will not bring it down... Ready for the rest of this class to be over... .... Good luck to those of you still working on the DB and quiz...

I agree!! I have not had a class that the quizes were weighted so heavily!!! This has been a very confusing and frustrating class!! I am just glad I found out that I am not the only one suffering!!!!

Off to continue to study for the dreaded quiz!!!

Really? No control group, no intervention that I can find. Nothing offered to one group that wasn't to another. Guess I am dense but I do not see experimental or quasi-experimental in this.

Do you think they could have pulled a fast one on us? I never thought it was either of the 2 choices but felt I had to go with the closest choice. Now I'm wondering if they're going to call our bluff. OK, I must be getting paranoid. I had a rough day.Do you think they could have pulled a fast one on us?
