4550- Evidence Based Nursing

Nursing Students Ohio University

Published

From looking at the classes starting in fall, I'm guessing that Evidence Based nursing is replacing Research? Anyone have any idea if stats is still required prior to taking this, as it was with Research?

I finally posted my DB for this week after getting clarification that " we need to learn to be concise and not long winded and 3 paragraphs should be amble "....well i tried ... also took the quiz.. i did remarkable better on this one.. only missed 3 .. finally feel comfortable with my grade in this class after not doing well the first 2 quizes.. hopefully the last 2 will have study guides and the grade for this DB will not bring it down... Ready for the rest of this class to be over... .... Good luck to those of you still working on the DB and quiz...

If they want us to be concise they shouldn't give us 3 assignments in one. Even with the meta analysis thrown out, which by the way I did not do, there were still 2 assignments and they want everything APA, so I had to do seperate paragraphs to introduce the different resources.

Poorly designed class, and yes Chuckster, I choke on paying the almost thousand dollars for this mess.

I did not see the assignment the same way. I felt they were asking us to read up and familiarize ourselves with the weaknesses and strengths of experimental and quasi so that we could discern the difference for the article and decide which one it was. I understood it to be that we only write about the three reasons WHY we chose experimental or quasi as the design in the article and to give our rationales for our conclusion. I don't think they wanted us to rehash the strengths and weaknesses of experimental and quasi in our DB post. Although I noticed many students did this anyway. these same students just glossed over the article, missing the main point of the week 3 DB assignment.

I think everybody just followed the interactions which, depending on the time the announcement was posted, either included an article with a meta-study or not. But the instructions stated to list three weaknesses and strength for each study, so that to me meant that they needed to be listed as well, which I saw everybody do. You are truly a bigger person than me because I just skimmed the article and the readings because I just have no interest and couldn't get myself to do it lol

Three weeks into this class and I just found this "discussion board." Much more interesting than the one for class! It helps to know that there are other people in the same boat!

The announcements had nothing to do with my determination of whether or not listing the three strengths and weaknesses of each type of design was relevant to the DB post. I never saw that as part of the DB post itself.

I am currently teaching two nursing students at Akron University. They are doing clinicals at the facility that I work at. One of them is taking the required Research class and says their class is a nightmare too. BUT, get this......she said that after this semester Akron U. is no longer requiring Research. UGH!!!! Wish Ohio U had done the same. I bet it is not forgotten though as I am sure it comes back to haunt us in graduate school. :***:

I agree about the need for stating the strengths and weaknesses of each study in the DB post. The clarified instructions that I received did not include doing the meta-analysis search so I ended up not doing that. In light of the confusion for this weeks DB posting, it will be interesting to see how satisfied everyone is with their DB grade. Week 3 done!

Is anyone taking Leadership/Management next?
