4550- Evidence Based Nursing

Nursing Students Ohio University

From looking at the classes starting in fall, I'm guessing that Evidence Based nursing is replacing Research? Anyone have any idea if stats is still required prior to taking this, as it was with Research?

This class seems to have only the most tenuous connection to statistics. This is also the second class in a row that I've taken in which the tests seem to have little connection to the reading, and none to the videos.

Now I'm stymied by the week 3 Independent/Dependent variables assignment. Our "To-do" listing refers to this as an essay in which we are supposed to identify dependent/independent variables. I frankly don't understand what's being asked for. Is this a test rather than an assignment? Does "essay" refer to the kind of test question? If it's a test, why is there a rubric? And if it's an assignment to write an essay, why do we need to use the dreaded lockjaw browser?

I think it is a graded activity where you have to identify the dependent and independent variables within a scenario. I have been scouring the web looking for examples - found quite a few that feature Sponge Bob and the Simpsons :rotfl: Suppose the "lockjaw" (I love this!) is on so there is no cheating by webbing it to look for the answers.

A few practice questions with answers would be helpful before we log into the assignment sight unseen.

Where's the rubric? I can't even find that.

Does anyone understand what they are asking us to do in the second part of the directions for the discussion board this week?? THere are two sections of directions and the second part makes no sense to me. Am I missing something?

Don't think there is one. Not one listed on the My Grades page

Practice question #1 from the printed study guide for the text (came with my used book!)

Regular provision of iron improves iron status of breast-fed infants without adverse effects (Zeigler, Nelson, & Jeter, 2009).

You are talking about the part where it says to make certain to note how many articles in the review were qualitative and quantitative and state what quantitative designs were found? Yup - clear as mud. Is it talking about the article we have to read and then the one we found - then it does not make sense at all since the 2nd article is supposed to be a systematic review or meta-analysis of a topic related to diabetes. And No - I have no idea what I am talking about, I am just typing what I see in the directions :banghead:

I have posed these questions to my TA and will let you know what I hear. It does say TEST, no rubric, and ESSAY???? What is with this class??? I feel so ripped off by OU. I hate this so much it literally raises my heart rate!!! :banghead:

IV - iron

DV - iron status

giving iron affects the iron status

Question 2

Family-centered care (FCC) is a significant predictor of children's health-related quality of life (HRQL), independent of illness severity (Moore, Mah, & Trute, 2009)

But shouldn't iron status r/t an entity such as the infant? I don't get it
