Everything Sucks: Red Flags?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Okay, I'm gonna keep it semi-short. I'm a new grad yay! Working in a skilled nursing facility...today will be my second day of following behind a nurse....and she sucks lol

I mean I literally didn't get to do anything yeserday other than insulins (that went unwitnessed because "the computer does the math so no need", coumadins, and breathing treatments.

Mind you, I'd been doing that as required for a week prior along side the medication aide lol

She wants me to do the exact same thing today. She disappears off the unit every 4 minutes to smoke.....bleh. Did I mention she's the DON?!

I just feel like she doesn't want to train me for the two days she has me. Which is super dumb as you do want competent employees right?

What the heck? LOL

A few other things:

- I haven't been paid on time for second week in a row (every friday) - I'm being told now I have to wait until Monday

- They don't have coverage for a shift in which I'm supposed to be training

- They have yet to increase my pay rate when they said it would be done immediately - not to mention every time I ask what they pay rate is they go around it or beat around the bush...

- I'm the only 2nd shift nurse who will be charge - AS A NEW GRAD????!!!!

- They did all this talk about honesty and family and yet I literally read the lies in her progress notes on PATIENTS

How do I bear the madness?!

You can forget all the other red flags after focusing on two simple statements. You have not yet been paid on time and you apparently have no idea how much you are actually making. That's enough right there to leave despite whatever other issues you have with this employer.

Sorry to hear about this situation. Here is what I would do...

1. If you are staying there I would get a hold of the training RN (this maybe the DON) it is OK ask for the sign off sheets for new nurses/new employees. Have them in a binder and with each new nursing skill you are learning I would ask for them to do step by step. No wriggle room. Let them know you are brand new and want to learn the book way first before you start to develop any shortcuts. If they will not do this then GET OUT OF THERE.

Literally two of you were helpful. The rest of you have the attention span of a squirrel. But thanks anyway.

WHOA! You came here asking for help; you get what you get. You don't dump on posters because you don't like the answers you get.

IF your DON is telling you that SC insulin does not need to be witnessed, then it does not need to be witnessed. If you're still in doubt, pull up the policy. If there's a discrepancy between what the policy says and what the DON says, ask her about it. Assuming that you know more than the DON when you're a new grad reeks of bad attitude and there's nothing as scary as a new grad who thins she knows everything.

Did I mention that your attitude is horrible?

Oh I don't know, but I'm just thinking that if this little piggy op went more than one week without getting paid on the proper day (and still works there), than maybe it's this little piggy op who in fact has the attention span of a squirrel...

Carry on all y'all..

I'll have you know that I have spent many hours of quality time observing my friends the squirrels, and have found that their attention span is quite preferable to many people I am forced to deal with. Please do not insinuate that my friends are not highly intelligent beings with a gift for amazing cuteness. And they bring presents to otters, so there! :cheeky:
