did you guys hear nusre sam ask abby if she could take her shift the next day, and dr. weaver said let somebody else do it, "we don't need our residents to be seen slinging bedpans." :angryfire I am so ticked at that show right now I am about ready to write a letter. That was uncalled for and continues the impression that all that nurses do is take care of code browns. When are we going to get a show that treats the nurses like the professional that they are without the snarky comments? :angryfire
Very uncalled for & am sorry he seems so "vain"...maybe you should get a job @ the nursing home I work @. I've never had to clean 1 of the 30 residents I get per shift...then again, I get 30 pts. Unlike hospitals, our aids do all "dirty work" but I always respect them & help transfer pts. if needed. Our CNA's are the heart of nursing.
But how come the part that made you angry was the asinine comment made by Weaver not the fact that the only other "core" nurse on the show was some dip running from her scary ex?
Abby is from a psycoloicaly unsat family LOL, the other was a single mother at 15 and is still running. Abby has boffed everyone and Sam I am sure is well on her way. How about just one nurse with her head on straight who likes her job and boffs nobody. LOL, then it would just be real life ehhh.
And as for the biblicalness of perenial care- I am not only a nurse but was a patient for 3 months, any time perenial care was performed I was not thinking that the nurse was an angel- I was biding my time that she got the h-e- double hockey sticks out of my room so I could regather my dignity.
I heard that on ER also, and it made me mad.
I thought they specifically had real MD's and RN's on the set to correct anything that would be wrong. I guess I erred on that thinking - it must be just stuff that is medically wrong. Too bad.
Side note: ER has gone WAY downhill the past 2 seasons. It really went from a good medical drama to a soap opera. They're trying to hard to pull at the heart-strings these past few seasons.

What do you expect it's a show thats why i stopped watchhing that show awhile ago because its the nurses are always made too look like the lackeys and the the MD's are always made to look like their the only ones really helping people. That show is nothing like the real ER.
Helping someone onto a bedpan who can't get out of bed to use the toilet is perhaps the greatest honor you will ever have in this world. The rest (money, credentials, power) is all just smoke and mirrors. Cleaning someone up who has soiled themselves is the greatest act of kindness you will ever do. Shows like ER aren't real, so who cares how they portray anything? When you see the truth, you will see that God has played a big joke on those who must elevate themselves to the status of emporer or die trying. If you can't see the incredible honor, dignity and power in being the person who provides perineal care to an incontinent patient--then you're in hell.

I agree with you on this. I think the greatest job I will ever have as a nurse is being a servant to others in need. Servant does not mean waitress, but rather having a servants heart = loving people and humbling oneself. To me this is the greatest work we could ever do for Him. I figure if Jesus can wash someone's feet, hey, don't you think I should too?? :)

So very true!! While I occasionally have 'one of those days' when I HATE being a nurse, I would hate being a doctor even more. I truly believe that today's doctors are behaving like jerks out of sheer frustration with what you have described. Not that this justifies their rudeness, but many are definitely very frustrated today.
I also earn more than many GP's in this area...and I'm sure this is hard for them to take. Most GP's I know are goodhearted people who went into the field for the right reasons...not for power and prestige (that's reserved for specialists and super-specialists...LOL) :chuckle
The docs I work with many times have nodded their heads wistfully when I say how much I appreciate punching out at the end of my shift and being able to totally relax when I leave the hospital.
