:rolleyes: did you guys hear nusre sam ask abby if she could take her shift the next day, and dr. weaver said let somebody else do it, "we don't need our residents to be seen slinging bedpans." :angryfire I am so ticked at that show right now I am about ready to write a letter. That was uncalled for and continues the impression that all that nurses do is take care of code browns. When are we going to get a show that treats the nurses like the professional that they are without the snarky comments? :angryfire

i am a christian and i'll profess it in a minute.

it's all in your attitude and how you make the patient feel while you're doing it!

you sound very extreme and almost a little crazy. not to offend you in anyway, but that's how it came across to me...and i'm very familiar with the word of god. imagine how it may sound to someone who is searching.

you know, you never had to profess it at all, and i still would have guessed that you're a christian. i, myself, am not. but i certainly agree with your statement about attitude in perineal care. as for being crazy, i stopped caring about that a long time ago, but thanks for the observation. it doesn't offend me at all.

monist, i pity the nurses that have to work with you when/if you become one. you need to calm down and cut out these extreme views! why are you so bitter? you haven't even experienced true nursing yet. you obviously have a lot to learn about attitude, being a team player and accepting people for who they are. that will make your shift a whole lot more pleasant for you and everyone else. remember, your patients are not your patients, they are every nurses' patient on the floor that shift. you are a team. you need to get along with your co-workers, not label them and pick and choose who you will befriend. i've been a nurse for almost 10 years and it's great to get along with the team. it's so much easier when you can go up to anyone and be able to ask for assistance without having a chip on your shoulder. calm down and stop trying to bite! chill out! you'll be burned out before you even pass your boards if you keep going at the rate you're going!

helping someone onto a bedpan who can't get out of bed to use the toilet is perhaps the greatest honor you will ever have in this world. the rest (money, credentials, power) is all just smoke and mirrors. cleaning someone up who has soiled themselves is the greatest act of kindness you will ever do. shows like er aren't real, so who cares how they portray anything?

give me a break! you are just continuing the sterotype that nurses (mostly woman) should be joyfully running around performing "acts of kindness." nevermind our education & professionalism. but it is okay for doctors (used to be mainly men) to demand respect and pay for their education and professionalism. your attitude really bugs me! may you empty bedpans glore.

given your attitude, i'll bet my attitude really does bug you. but here's the real difference: i'm not waiting for mds to grant me status or professionalism. i couldn't care less what they think about me. the last thing i need when i'm sick is a nurse that demands respect and pay for their professionalism and education. the last thing the world needs is another self-appointed emperor.

Why would you wait for ANYONE to grant you status or professionalism. The only thing that an MD needs to grant you is a prescription for Prozac! You are scary! lets go easy here...

I am sure this person will discover quite quickly that the patients couldn't care less about the philosophical gibberings...they want their drugs,docs,bathroom...this person will either figure out the patient and their opinions is the focus in nursing or they will be weeded out.

We don't need to worry about it.

When they stop defibrillating patients who are in asystole, maybe they'll portray nurses in a better light.

The whole premise of Abby becoming a doctor because she's such a shining star as a nurse and is basically wasting her time being a nurse makes me sick to begin with... why not throw in some assanine comments as well?

AMEN!! I gave up on "ER" when George Clooney pulled a Father Mulcahy -Tracheotomy-Using-A-Pen-And-A-Pocketknife in the driving rain on a peds pt. back in 1996. Slinging bedpans and pt.s screaming when you draw blood IS a little more accurate, at least.

I just don't understand the attitude of doctor=good, nursing=settling for less. The pay isn't a factor anymore, the and paperwork for a doctor is sheer misery, the years of your youth and family life drained away by an inhumane schedule, virtually no patient contact (you are too busy trying to get PAID by Medicare and the HMO's and justifying every thing you do)...gee, it must be just prestige, then. Nursing wins, hands down, if you ask me.
