ER Dept Scrub Color

Hello,

Do you have ER Department Scrub Colors. We currently can wear anything and it is impossible to tell the ER Staff from housekeeping.

What colors do you wear? What do you like or dislike about that color?

in my ER we wear royal blue. each dept. has their own color. this color is pretty easy to match up prints with. khaki is a good color too, just about everything matches it.

Specializes in cardiac/critical care/ informatics.

We can wear what we want that is the same through out the hospital except OR and areas like OR. I think that as an RN, that you wear your name badge and identify your self to your patient than they will know who you are and not housekeeping. Also we have recently placed greaseboard in all rooms and we put the names of the nurse and aid taken care of the patient.

Specializes in ER, Rural Nursing, Public Health.

The same with my ER -

RNs = royal blue scrubs

Techs/ Paramedics/ EMTs/ = in forest green scrubs

Secretaries = in wine scrubs

It helps big time, but I think the patients do not know what the colours mean, as they still ask "are you a nurse?"... It should really be posted somewhere (maybe it is, I just haven't noticed)....

We wear black scrubs in the ER but can wear any color top or jacket.

ICU and PCU are navy and white.

Med surg is white pants with any color tops or jackets.

Aides are wine pants with any color tops or bottoms.

Secretaries wear street clothes.

Housekeeping wear khacki pants and white shirts.

There's more colors in other depts but I can't recall them right now.

Patients only know who's who if you identify yourself. Name badges are pretty small and hard to read unless you're up close.

We used to be able to wear scrubs (UK), but our lovely hospital manager decided he couldn't tell the nurses from the doctors and put us in ward uniforms :(

They attract stains like nothing on earth! I really hate them... oh and they have poppers instead of zips, so I ended up showing my bra to the anaesthetic team after catching my uniform on a bed corner. Grrrr!

In my hospital, we have to wear navy blue. No prints or anything, just navy blue. We have had positive comments from our patients and visitors. It is easy to tell who is family in the ER

In our Level 1 ED, we wear navy, navy, navy. We can wear a white t-shirt beneath the scrub top, but that's it. I think the only advantage to the navy color is that it is rather slimming. :rotfl: But, boy does the lint ever show up and if you're well liked and popular, you will frequently have powdered handprints on your shoulder or back. :p

Specializes in Nephrology, Cardiology, ER, ICU.

We can wear any color. However, our hospital has gone to the additional badge with the BIG (and I mean BIG) RN on it that fits below the regular badge. We have the BIG name tags for RN, ED TECH, USR (ward clerk), MD Attending and MD Resident.

Specializes in ER.

In my ER each staff member, ie RN, Tech, RESP tech, etc...wears a different color...

RN's-misty green (like a green gray color)

Techs- kelly green

radiology(ct techs and xry)-navy blue

resp techs-hunter green

housekeeping-black

MDs-Maroon

The scrub colors are specific to the ER, all the other floors in the hospital still wear what the want. It works out nice for us though...especially in July, when all of our residents are new...its easier to tell the difference between the ER residents and the medical residents...and even though grandmom that has dementia still calls the housekeeping girl nurse and the xry tech doctor...I think it looks nicer, we all just look put together instead of a haphazard mix of thrown together colors...some people think it takes away their independent identity, but its work, I'm there to do my job, not be the shining star...I like it.

Specializes in Emergency.

in nashville's level I we wore royal......i thought it was awesome, you could tell right away who the RN was!!! we also looked very professional in it, as the rules were strict regarding white no letters underneath. extremely professional, very nice.

in houston, we wore all black, and the same thing, you could look and right away identify the RN. however they were very lax regarding tshirts and such......... not very professional.

here in cali, and back in ohio.......oh we wore anything that worked........hahaha

Hospital policy is for nurses to wear white scrubs...top and bottom. The ER nurses usually wear white or the hospital scrubs after they get "stuff" on the white ones. They can basically wear whatever they want.
