Endorsement fron NM to FL, HELP !!! ??

Hello, I've a license as a RN from New Mexico, and I've been endorsing to Florida, but the Florida Board Of Nursing said that my educational credential, evaluated by Joseph Silny & Associates, is the equivalent to a Practical Nursing Program in USA, and with those educational deficiences I can only sit for NCLEX - LPN or work for a period of 2 years in New Mexico. I do not understand this issue because I already passed a national examination.

Please some help, anyone whit the same problem??

Thank !!!

It sounds like your RN wasn't at an accepted and creditialed school. Where did you get your RN Degree from?

It's rare that FL, or any states doesn't accept an RN from another state.

The NCLEX-RN exam has reciprocity in all fifty states as well as US territories. Licenses do not have reciprocity. We see this all of the time on the International Forum.

In order to endorse to the new state, you must meet their educational requirements. Since you went thru a credentialing service, suspect that you graduated out of the country. You may be short just a couple of courses to meet the requirements for Florida. But they have final say on who will get a license in their state, and it does not matter if you have an RN license in another state.

I always recommend CES done by CGFNS as far as credential evaluations go. This is accepted by all states as well as universities and the private ones are not.

The CES may also be able to give you a better breakdown of your hours and tell you what you are missing.

Which country did you do your training in?

My nursing degree is from Cuba (completed 20 years ago).

I filled an application for License by Examination thru New Mexico, and passed (only one exam).

With the same credentials the New Mexico BON approved my application to sit for NCLEX-RN, and after endorse to Florida, the board explained that this credentials showed that I have the equivalent to graduating from a practical nursing program in the United States, it looks like the they have different standards about educational requirement to sit for the same national exam.

In order to be a Registered Nurse in Florida, I have to move to New Mexico, work there for two years and return to Florida (hopefully with the same current rules and statutes about license as a nurse) or change my application to sit for NCLEX-LPN, those are the options given to me by the Florida BON in response to my request of clarification, “move to New Mexico or amend my application for another exam”, having passed one before (NCLEX-RN), and with an active licensed as a Registered Nurse.

This is very confusing and frustrating …

Thanks once again !!!!

Anyone in the same situation??, I need some advice !!!!

If you wanted to work in Florida you should have applied to take your NCLEX in Florida.

It sounds like you knew that you didn't qualify in Florida and thought all you merely had to do was qualify in another state and endorse it right over. You were wrong and you need to accept this and follow what the state BON is telling you.

You might specifically ask them if there are any courses or exams you can take to make your degree acceptable to them.

Anyway, it still sounds like an issue between you and the state of Florida.

I'm moving your question to the International Forum where you might find someone who has been in this situation.

Good luck.

Hi my name is mercedes I'm holding RN license from NM and I have two friend in the same situation, we were trying to apply for endorsement from NM to Florida but they denied the aplication stated that our credentials does not fullfil the requeriment to be an RN in Florida even though we pass the NCLEX-RN board examination the first time as you did.

Please let me know if you find out something related this issue.

Regards

Mercedes

Are you or have you worked in NM? there has been some recent changes with Florida and they want some years experience in state before they will endorse.

Where did you go to school? I have an aunt that graduated from a nursing program in Cuba also and she had no problem endorcing into California.

Different states have different educational requirements. For example Excelisor which is US based program won't endorse RNs who have passed the NCLEX and have clinical experience in certain states. Sorry, states are allowed to determine what is proper educational experience.

No easy answer, this is a risk when you graduate from an international school or a non traditional program.

thanks for your clarification silverdragon102, if you need some help in spanish, just let me now.

hi mercedes, at the end, i was unable to endorse my rn license from nm to florida, due to my "educational deficiencies" and 2 options was given to me by the florida board of nursing, move to work as rn out of state, in this case to nm where my license is worth it, or changed my endorsement application to sit for nclex-lpn. finally i passed this exam as a first taker, and now i hold a lpn license in florida. i decided no to move to new mexico for personal reasons. and now i'm making a good living and looking to improve my education, once again.

it's very difficult the beginning, and a lot of wall to climb, and so many crazy reason making things worse while usa need more nurses and other health professionals.
