Endorsement fron NM to FL, HELP !!! ??

Published

Hello, I've a license as a RN from New Mexico, and I've been endorsing to Florida, but the Florida Board Of Nursing said that my educational credential, evaluated by Joseph Silny & Associates, is the equivalent to a Practical Nursing Program in USA, and with those educational deficiences I can only sit for NCLEX - LPN or work for a period of 2 years in New Mexico. I do not understand this issue because I already passed a national examination.

Please some help, anyone whit the same problem??

Thank !!!

Hello, I'm in the same position as floridaNurse38, the funny thing is that other people with our same credentials were accepted by Florida BON until last year and now they are RNs in Florida without having to work in any other state. It's this fair?

BON can change their requirements at any time and this is something that has happened (or we have heard about) this last 8 months or so. If outside the US there is no reason why you do not apply for licensure with Florida to start with if that is your final destination. Even for endorsing you will need CES and Florida do not destroy your file unlike California although they do not give a license initially

Chimbo did you already take NCLEX-LPN exam or are awaiting authorization, we are four people in the same situation waiting for the BOARD to allow us to take the test because by the time we can not go to work in new mexico.

Hi Silverdragon102

Since we live in a free country you have the right to apply for examination in the state that you prefer to do it if it is not a compact state, if the Board want to change regulation them they shouldn't have an endorsement policy, it is not fair that you already pass a national exam as NCLEX-RN an they don't want to give you the license that you already are holding, there is not excuses to do that in a state where the nursing crisis is truly serious

The BON can change anything they want. Each BON will have their own requirements and not everyone will meet them even those that trained in the US. In some countries the license covers the whole country and you can work where ever you want and others like the state has individual state license therefore you have to meet their requirement. For example in the UK you are license by the governing body of the NMC and you can work anywhere within the UK without meeting any other requirements, where as the US you have to apply to each state you want to work. If you apply to one state but plan on working in another then to me you are spending more money as you will still have to meet BON/BRN requirements.

Just my opinion

Babyheme I don't underestand your question about the test.

This thread is pertaining to endorsement to Florida, not initial licensure for the US with sitting for the exam.

There is a specific sentence or two given with the FL BON website stating that they will not permit endorsement to FL for the RN license if one has gotten licensed in another state without having experience first of two years. That is a new rule that they have put into place. If you are wishing to work in FL, best bet is to go thru them for initial licensure or be aware of what their requirements are.

Any state can make any changes to their licensing policy at any time and they do, it is up to them to make that decision.

Getting approval to sit for the NCLEX for one state does not mean that you will automatically be able to get a license in every other state. Just not going to happen in all instances.

This has nothing at all to do with Compact License at all. So not sure why it is even being brought up as well.

Each state has their own licensing requirements, that is why we repeatedly state that licenses do not have reciprocity; only the NCLEX exam does. And even in the US, not all programs meet the requirements of all of the states for licensure. You are used to one country providing a license, here in the US each state has their own rules and regulations.

Compact License has no bearing on this as well since you are not living in NM, then the Compact part of the license would be null and void right from the beginning since you are not a legal resident of that state when you applied for licensure; and if one were living there but moved, then again, the Compact License fails to exist, only would be valid with that license actually in NM.

Passing the NCLEX exam does not automatically get you a license as well, some states have requirements of actually possessing a SSN# or they will not issue a license without that, same as Florida as well.

When you train out of the country, then you have additional requirements that need to be met, and Florida has their own and they are specifically stated on their website. If you wish to get a license there, then you need to meet their requirements. They are not required to meet yours.
