End of the semester laziness

Published

Does anyone else get this? In spring semester the last 3-4 weeks were so beautiful and sunny and warm and it took all my strength not to ditch and go to class, I was so ready to be done.

Well now I have 4 weeks left (really only 3 because we have the whole week of thanksgiving off) and it's not sunny and warm, in fact it's snowy and cold but again I find myself slacking off and losing my motivation, I know we are so close to being done and I will be happy I made it through my first semester of nursing school and ironically I plan on studying med surge over my winter break but it's like at the end of the semesters I just feel lazy and don't want to study or go to class or put forth any effort anymore. Does anyone else start feeling that way towards the end of their semesters or quarters?

I think most of us get that way! Im still in prereq's, but I'm so ready to be out of the classroom and in the hospital. I have 3 weeks left of the semester and finals are on the horizon and I'm so tired and don't feel like doing a thing!

In my nursing school first semester you are still mainly in the hospital. LOL Clincals were only once a week for 8 weeks in the nursing home. Next semester is a whole new ballgame though and we will be in the hospital I am super excited. But if I was in there day in and day out I would probably start feeling the same as well and wanting to be out side LOL

Sounds like your time is nearing, how exciting!!

ugh, I am trying to push though this population focused project of mine-a hefty 10-12 page paper plus a 20 min pretension to prep, for my Public Health course. I hate paper writing. Its so incredibly boring and time consuming. I'd rather study for exams (of which I also need to do, I have 3 ATIs within the next 3 weeks). Vomit.

Luckily I already submitted a draft for my big paper for my research class. I am just waiting for my professor's comments so I can edit it accordingly.

I am burnt out. For sure.

At the end of nursing school I could not wait to get out. I just did not care anymore. I did sloppy care plans etc. Just wanted to get the hell out of school.

Good to know its been going around for a while!! Thank you Diane, as sometimes from the more experienced nurses I've gotten 'we weren't like that when we were in nursing school' or 'I can't believe thats what you are experiencing/saying/feeling--this is the best time of your life'...I am so dead and over it...8 hour written comps on Dec.8th, practise 265 NCLEX on the 9th, graduate on the 16th...and I cannot wait! Thank god for allnurses to be able to vent, to share & not feel judged. This site is amazing.

As I am reading this I am supposed to be studying. There are 41 chapters on my comprehensive Fundamentals final! Each chapter averages about 40 pages. UGH! I have set out a plan to study 4 chapters a day for ten days and then the last one by itself. I hope I can get it all done. After months of nothing but studying, I have also become very tired and lazy! I agree with earlier posters, your brain can only take so much. ;( Good luck everyone! Congrats on your test grade Mi Vida Loca!

AGHHHHH!!! I would pluck my eyes out if I didn't need them to read and study...LOL! :coollook: I have a day "off" today and I was excited because I have time to study...Can't wait till this semester is over!

Amen to that, although I will be spending my winter break pre studying med surge, a few of us are going to get together which is great because I suck at self studying but do better in the small groups.

Oh my gosh, I am almost starting to feel like having a week off and now going back for 2 weeks is worse, rather went for 2 more weeks and got an extra week at the end off. It sucked so bad going back today.

Wasn't entirely bad though, I took my Pharm Final this morning and I got a freaking 100% I was totally stoked!

:yawn:holy cow..i feel the same way!!! i hit a wall totally , can't get back into studying like i was before the week off! i feel pooped! what a time to feel that way....tomorrow is our last day of clinical and then 3 weeks for exams/finals.....hope i pick up some steam soon!!!!

good luck to all! :)

WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO pushed through and I have the next 5 weeks off!!!! Start second semester on Jan.19th.

I got all my books for next semester to try and pre study, but thankfully their won't be pressure of deadlines and tests so it won't be too bad.

Hopefully everyone else pushed through and made it as well.

1 semester down and 3 more to go!!!

I am done now too Mi Vida Loca... boy am I ready for this break. It was murder for me for the last week, my slump never picked up and I was dragging until the very last day. I only get a month off but I'll take it! Next semester is the last of my pre-reqs and will find out this spring about CU.

Enjoy your break!! :D
