Emory Pre-req Questions

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hi there! I'm coming out of lurkdom again. :)

I got my acceptance letter to Emory over the holidays. I'm very excited about attending Fall 2006!

I have two pre-reqs left to complete and I'm a bit worried that I might be in a pickle. Here's the deal:

I've been re-taking some pre-reqs at Georgia Perimeter that were too old to qualify for the program. I retook A&P II last spring and Micro this past fall semester. For Emory, I need to take, according to their website, General Chemistry I and General Chemistry II (with an organic component). They had said at the open house that a nutrition class I had might qualify for the Chem II, but it looks like it didn't.

My first question to anyone who might know is: Does Survey of Chemistry II qualify for the "General Chemistry II (with an organic component)" requirement?

Supposing it does, I can register for Survey of Chemistry I at GPC for the spring semester. However, I don't think Survey of Chemistry II is offered in the summer at GPC, which leaves me in a bit of a bind. Anyone think they would let me take Chem I and II concurrently since I have 3 higher level sciences than Chem I and 3 higher level math classes than the pre-req for Chem I? Or, does anyone think I can take Survey of Chem I at GPC and then Survey of Chem II at GA State as a transient student in the summer? (The GPC and GA State Survey of Chem classes seem almost identical.)

Ok, enough rambling....just having a bit of a panic attack here. Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions/etc.!

There's the link...here's the rest:

Reg. requires user name (OPUS), password, and Emory ID (7 digits); will be asked for the following: full name, emory id number, email address, housing (on/off campus), school/program, payment by student account, & preferences...login w/user name & password...

I love you! Thanks... lunch is on me one day.

How do I know which parking deck is which and what order of preference should I pick?

The pictures don't say much and the map links aren't working atm.

With me staying at home I guess I can only pick the Michael Street, Gatewood, and Peavine Decks (in that order)

Michael Street is the only one close. Peavine and Gatewood are both freakin far so it doesn't matter. If I don't get Michael Street I'm buying a bike or organizing a carpool or something. I'm just not paying $411 to park that far away.

When I filled out the parking thing online you -had- to make three choices of where to park. I put Michael Street first, then Gatewood, then Peavine....so I guess I'm stuck now if I don't get Michael, huh?

I was with your thinking, Amy, that I'd just do something else if I didn't get Michael, but it wouldn't let me choose just that. I wonder if we can cancel our parking if we want...

Also, is there any information anywhere on this shuttle system? I knew they had one, but are there schedules posted anywhere? I'm already going to be leaving at the buttcrack of dawn some days to get to Emory from Snellville. :(

I wonder how soon we will find out where we can park... I'm sure all of the seniors will be on top of things and have already picked their spots... I wonder how many juniors/1st year nursing students have already paid for parking. I just got my blue parking letter Saturday. When did you guys get your letters?

That's when I got mine too, Droopy.

And thank you, Amy!! :)

Maybe we should start working out a carpool plan sooner rather than later. I live in SW dekalb (I-20 and Columbia drive) and I'll be going either Columbia-DekalbIndustrial-N. Decatur Rd- Emory or Columbia-I-20-Moreland-Briarclifff-N. Decatur every day. Haven't figured it out yet.

Droopy, avoid Braircliff at all costs during am rush hour! N. Decatur is better.

I live *close* to Emory. I would be willing to discuss a carpool arrangement and volunteer my place as a gathering point for pickups/dropoffs, but not on a message board where all the world can see where I live! Maybe we should all get together for coffee or something. We can talk about all of this stuff, and maybe carpool arrangements too. It would be nice to meet anyway.

BTW... don't worry too much yet. Michael St. is a BIG deck. During spring semester, I would get to work LATE and still find spaces on the 5th floor (there are seven floors).

I've never had to park higher than 6, even if I left for an errand and came back in the afternoon.

Another helpful hint:

http://map.emory.edu

is a clickable interactive map of campus...

however you must stoop to using internet explorer to view it. Oh how I hate you IE!

*shudders at the mention of IE*

I'd love to meet up with you guys for coffee and whatnot. :)

Also...N. Decatur....I'm blanking out on that... I'd be coming 20 from Stonecrest Mall...is that an option I can take to avoid Briarcliff?
