Hi there! I'm coming out of lurkdom again. :)
I got my acceptance letter to Emory over the holidays. I'm very excited about attending Fall 2006!
I have two pre-reqs left to complete and I'm a bit worried that I might be in a pickle. Here's the deal:
I've been re-taking some pre-reqs at Georgia Perimeter that were too old to qualify for the program. I retook A&P II last spring and Micro this past fall semester. For Emory, I need to take, according to their website, General Chemistry I and General Chemistry II (with an organic component). They had said at the open house that a nutrition class I had might qualify for the Chem II, but it looks like it didn't.
My first question to anyone who might know is: Does Survey of Chemistry II qualify for the "General Chemistry II (with an organic component)" requirement?
Supposing it does, I can register for Survey of Chemistry I at GPC for the spring semester. However, I don't think Survey of Chemistry II is offered in the summer at GPC, which leaves me in a bit of a bind. Anyone think they would let me take Chem I and II concurrently since I have 3 higher level sciences than Chem I and 3 higher level math classes than the pre-req for Chem I? Or, does anyone think I can take Survey of Chem I at GPC and then Survey of Chem II at GA State as a transient student in the summer? (The GPC and GA State Survey of Chem classes seem almost identical.)
Ok, enough rambling....just having a bit of a panic attack here. Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions/etc.!
Still here...buried under the huge pile of Emory paperwork...I did do the TB and my physical though, have to go and pick up the dang paperwork from the MD still...
A few problems I'm having1.) Has anyone taken the A and P test? Every time I go it says test has been taken off line.
2.) when I try to log back into certifiedbackground it starts giving me the same problem that I had before... where my opus ID doesn't work. Then if i go to forgot password, says "no match was found someone will contact you etc etc."
Haven't taken the A&P test...
Are you trying to get your results back for it or did you never sign up for it? I think that you have to send that blue sheet back to Emory before they'll release your results, if that's what you mean...
Took my BLS for HCP today. Funny how all the people in the videos having cardiac problems are walking into the ER at the time... and the people choking are in a hospital cafeteria...
I mean, I know its a class for HCP, but isn't that a little silly?
And BTW, the baby manequin in the video is the ugliest "baby" I've ever seen!
Hi Amytheodd,I'm going into my junior year at Ga Baptist@Mercer, and I also applied for the Northside Scholars program, however, I wasn't accepted. I was just wondering how many interviews did you have?? Also, I thought they were accepted 12 students for the scholarship??
I had one interview. I was also told at the beginning that they were planning on taking 12, but when they sent us out info a couple weeks ago, they only accepted 7. I do not know why.
I am sorry that you were disappointed. Best of luck finding other sources of funding. I know its a cliche, but it is true that things always seem to work out one way or another, and if it makes you feel any better, I am still swimming in loans.
Eeeeeeek!!!!!! Polio vaccine?!?!
I am -certain- I was immunized as a child, seeing as how I was born and raised in the US, but....I'm 31...and I live in a different state, there's no way I can get those records! Heck, I'm not even sure the doc who was my pediatrician is still alive!!!
And it takes a year to complete the series! Is that going to be too long? Man, I'm confused!!
Edit: Whew...called the Health Center and they said the polio vaccine is one they'll take your word on. Good thing my mom remembers when I got my last shot! ;-)
:rotfl: Oh, boy...HCP: That would be Health Care Providers...
LOL!!! Have fun! :)
lol, you have to forgive me! I have beenw working 60-70 hour weeks to save enough so I don't have to work during school and I needed to relax! I was out of my mind and had to backspace to edit my typing quite a bit.
I'm obviously bad with acronyms when drinking, heh.
Hey just wanted to brag, that's my graduating class in 2005. The uniforms that you are wondering about have to be purchased at a specific uniform store and monogramed with the Emory label. get at least two sets....they will also know what kind of lab coat you require as this is needed for lab not clinical. During my time there in lab you had to be in business casual (no jeans, shorts) this may have changed. As far as shoes they had to be ALL WHITE nursing shoes even the nike logo (again this may have changed) For books go on emory's website and find the Medical Bookstore at Emory and order your books from there. Reason other places will only save you a few dollars (5-10 at most) plus you know you are getting the correct texts. By the way be prepared to READ a lot......you will read almost EVERY STINKING PAGE of almost all your texts....I really enjoyed my time there it was a great school...GO EMORY!!!!!!
In the end when you graduate and have a real job you will see the differences in your education........

Reading this i have a few questions... I'm a Polo shirt and jeans guy sooooo
1.) I see some students in capris and what looks like flip flops. Is that considered business casual? Not like I'll be wearing capris but I would consider capris more business-y than jeans.
2.) Ok, that's the lab dress code, but what about class?
3.) Wow, there's a lot of beautiful ladies in that picture. No question.
I guess I'll have to do some shopping this weekend. I do have slacks and appropiate shirts, but not really enough to go more than a week and a half without wearing the same thing. What can I say... my current job and activities don't require business casual.
