Emory Pre-req Questions

U.S.A. Georgia

Published

Hi there! I'm coming out of lurkdom again. :)

I got my acceptance letter to Emory over the holidays. I'm very excited about attending Fall 2006!

I have two pre-reqs left to complete and I'm a bit worried that I might be in a pickle. Here's the deal:

I've been re-taking some pre-reqs at Georgia Perimeter that were too old to qualify for the program. I retook A&P II last spring and Micro this past fall semester. For Emory, I need to take, according to their website, General Chemistry I and General Chemistry II (with an organic component). They had said at the open house that a nutrition class I had might qualify for the Chem II, but it looks like it didn't.

My first question to anyone who might know is: Does Survey of Chemistry II qualify for the "General Chemistry II (with an organic component)" requirement?

Supposing it does, I can register for Survey of Chemistry I at GPC for the spring semester. However, I don't think Survey of Chemistry II is offered in the summer at GPC, which leaves me in a bit of a bind. Anyone think they would let me take Chem I and II concurrently since I have 3 higher level sciences than Chem I and 3 higher level math classes than the pre-req for Chem I? Or, does anyone think I can take Survey of Chem I at GPC and then Survey of Chem II at GA State as a transient student in the summer? (The GPC and GA State Survey of Chem classes seem almost identical.)

Ok, enough rambling....just having a bit of a panic attack here. Thanks in advance for any advice/suggestions/etc.!

*shudders at the mention of IE*

I'd love to meet up with you guys for coffee and whatnot. :)

Also...N. Decatur....I'm blanking out on that... I'd be coming 20 from Stonecrest Mall...is that an option I can take to avoid Briarcliff?

Hmm, if 285 had an HOV lane we could car pool. When you go past Wesley Chapel, you're going right past where I live... although there is no exit for Columbia drive when going West, it's only when going east. I live right between Columbia dr and Wesley chapel. N Decatur would be an option if you were to go 285 N from 20 and get off at either Glenwood or Covington or 78, less so if you get off at Hwy 29. You could basically go down the 78 which changes into Scott Blvd.... go down about a half mile and make a right at N. Decatur. That takes you to Clifton/Emory. Maybe we should all get together for a lunch or something and "review" the best route. After trying many ways just bringing paper work to the Nursing school.

The Briarcliff route can be horrible on high traffic mornings. It's hard enough getting off at Moreland because cars are usually backed the entire length of the off-ramp.

One morning it took me 40 minutes to go the 10 miles from Candler road-20-Moreland-briarcliff-N. Decatur route to the campus.... and that was a fairly good day. Generally the earlier the better, which is why I want the 7am class.

yeah, I'm kinda wondering what traffic is even like that early... I'm never even awake by that time! I did sign up for most of the 7am options though, I am a morning person when I get in that habit.

I have my BLS class Saturday but I am free on Sunday.

I work downtown around Peachtree St and 4th, so I always pass Moreland and the earlier the better. If you get to Moreland at 630 or so, it's pretty smooth sailing. Try the same thing at 830 and you'll be hating life. The two bad parts are trying to get onto Moreland because no one wants to yield to let anyone off of the highway, and crossing Ponce because everyone and their mother wants to turn left from the right lane.... That light can be green for 20-30 seconds and only 3-4 cars get through because some dummy wants to turn left but from the right lane after he's tried to get over on traffic.

Sunday afternoon is not so bad. Just PM me with info I guess.

Sunday afternoon is not bad for me either. :)

Dang, the thread's been on fire since I last checked it!!

All the traffic talk, so scary, I'm getting chills - I'm beginning to be very glad that I'll be taking the shuttles...

Why are you living on campus and paying so much? If you want some good apartment recomendations near campus, (for next yr, or whatever) let me know. I've already shopped it. I've been in an apartment near there since January.

As for why I'm on campus - I didn't feel like looking for the apartments, and figuring out roommates and such, not to mention at the time my friends and I didn't know if that was going to screw up the financial aid, so we just went on campus...part of the problem is that I don't have a car during school, so getting an apartment would have been a bit of a problem w/o transportation, but I have people there that I know and all, so I'm fine! :) Do give me those for next year though, I may consider...

I'm still here! Just...hanging out...yeah.. :clown:

Been too busy straightening out my mess of a student loan package to post! Haven't forgotten about you guys!

Reviewing the stuff to turn in now... still need a physical

I got all my loan stuff signed. Still need my physical and TB test. I just had a physical last Nov. for another nursing program that I had been accepted to (before I received my acceptance from Emory) and I'm hoping I can just get a copy of it since it's less than a year old. I know I'll have to get a new TB test though...I believe those results are only good for 6 months. Bleh. Oh! Gotta go pee in a cup for the drug test folks too! Yay! hehe

I have to have a drug test for both Emory and Northside. Because of the way they do the paperwork, for two recipients, there must be two tests, there must be two samples. I hope I have that much pee in me.

Idon't ever worry about testing positive, I worry about doing the whole start-stop-collect-stop-finish peeing thing without peeing all over myself :o. One of the very few times I've ever wished I was a guy!

That was the first thing I did... pee in a cup and all, lol. I hope they don't detect my benadryl and nyquil...
